Yesterday, I published an opinion piece talking about how great of an experience I've had using Quick Resume with Forza Horizon 6 on my personal Xbox Series X. That's all true — I have had an amazing experience with it during my 30 hours with the game — but I was also contacted by a couple of Pure Xbox members to advise me that it could be contributing to a saving issue that's been suffered by a few Forza Horizon 6 players so far.
Looking into this further, I've come across numerous people who have been reporting lost progress due to this saving issue on both Xbox and PC, and it actually goes back many years even to the likes of Forza Horizon 3.
Here are some examples from the Forza Horizon Reddit community for FH6 (hit the "read more" button):
What's causing this? Well, nobody knows for sure, but there are a few schools of thought. The first is that if your game save somehow gets interrupted or glitched when syncing to the cloud, it simply breaks and can't be accessed anymore. Some people suggest that using Xbox's Quick Resume feature makes it more likely that the saving issue will crop up, and therefore turning it off for Forza Horizon 6 is the best course of action.
It's not just save syncing though - there's also apparently a bug where if you try to make or share a livery for two specific cars, it can also crash your game and potentially undo your progress.
And finally, some people are running into an issue where their Xbox is telling them that they're running out of space for save data, which is something we've seen in the past with multiple games including the likes of Baldur's Gate 3. When this happens it can also lead to broken save files, so that's another thing to be aware of.
