It has been a tumultuous few days for the developers at id Software, currently dealing with the loss of half the studio as part of Microsoft's untimely Xbox Reset. Amid the layoffs, the team released Revelations, its first major DLC for DOOM: The Dark Ages yesterday onto Xbox Series X|S.

We thought we'd take a gander at the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions following the DLC's arrival, both in terms of comparison and performance across the Xbox consoles.

Thanks to some new footage from Fuzion Xbox Testing, we can see that the Revelations DLC runs very well across both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, rocking a solid 60FPS at all times. Series S has a little softer image, supporting 900p in comparison to the 1440p resolution on the Series X. But it's not bad going for the lesser powered sibling, eh?

Of course, DOOM: The Dark Ages has seen multiple updates since it's arrival in May 2025, so steady frame rates are to be expected. But you never know what impact adding a sizable DLC package might have on overall performance.

Before we wrap up, Revelations is currently sitting on a 'Very Positive' rating on Steam. Whilst that may partly reflect the community rallying behind id Software following the tragic news, it's still great to see the DLC being so well received. We fancied highlighting a few of the more thoughtful Steam reviews for the Revelations DLC.

Here's what they had to say:

Entity on Steam: "To everyone who poured their talent, passion, and hard work into this project—thank you. Whether you're still at id software or have moved on, your work has left a lasting mark on this franchise and its community."

Jill Valentine on Steam: "It's like Dark Ages and Eternal had a child. This doesn't even feel like a DLC this feels like a full on sequel. They knew we yearned for Meathook Mobility and we got it along with playable Classic Doom flashbacks and Flynn Taggart is now canon!"

Geff on Steam: "I barely break a sweat in base game at Nightmare difficulty, this DLC manage to level up both game pace and brutality of each fight a lot.
Spear and dash make Doom Slayer very agile than I thought and a nice change from stand and fight tactics."

Well there you have it, folks! Whatever your motive for jumping back into DOOM: The Dark Ages, it looks like the new DLC runs perfectly, regardless of which Xbox Series console you choose to play on.

You can either purchase it right now on the Xbox Store for £17.99 / $19.99 (base game is required), or you can get it included with the Premium Upgrade (also requires base game) and Premium Edition versions of DOOM: The Dark Ages.
