Since Nintendo's Switch 2 announcement earlier this year, Microsoft has begun to support the new hybrid console, announcing various ports such as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition. However, the team at large — in particular Xbox Game Studios — hasn't fully committed to the platform yet, and former Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aimé is a little surprised by that.
Speaking in a new interview with The Game Business, Fils-Aimé says that he was "fully expecting some dedicated announcement" from Microsoft on bringing its games to Switch 2. The ex-Nintendo boss also reckons that "some games could easily be ported over to Switch 2" and haven't been just yet.
"I’m surprised that Xbox has not yet fully embraced Switch 2 from a software perspective, [...] Certainly some games could easily be ported over to Switch 2. And I’m surprised that we haven’t seen more of that. I thought there would be much more, especially during this timeframe leading into the Holiday.
All through the fall, I was fully expecting some dedicated announcement. And I’m surprised it hasn’t happened."
Alongside those three titles we mentioned up at the top, Microsoft has also recently reminded us that it intends to honor its commitment to bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms; which we assume will be Switch 2 given its jump in power from Switch 1. But yeah, aside from these Activision and Bethesda titles, we've seen less activity than we expected from Xbox with Switch 2. In terms of upcoming games, Forza Horizon 6 and Halo: Campaign Evolved have been announced for PS5, but not Switch 2 just yet.
With Bethesda's recent announcements and Activision COD commitment though, Microsoft is certainly moving more towards Switch 2 now, and we'd expect to see Xbox Game Studios begin to embrace the platform in the coming months. Given the team's recent multiplatform push, it's just taking a little longer than perhaps we — and indeed the former Nintendo president — previously expected.
