The ROG Xbox Ally is only just starting to be delivered across the world today, and Microsoft is already talking about plans for new features! Specifically, they've highlighted a few things arriving in the coming weeks and months.

It sounds like the first major post-launch addition will be "Default Game Profiles", which will "balance frame rate and energy use for select titles to give players smooth, enjoyable gameplay while extending battery life". Basically, when it comes to finding a sweet spot for good performance and retaining battery life, this'll do the work for you.

That'll be with us at some point "in the coming weeks", while early 2026 will bring us a few new features - "highlight reels" for the Xbox Ally X (whatever that means), AI-powered features like "Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR)", and enhancements for those who want to dock their system and use it like a PC or console on an external display.

"In the coming weeks, Xbox Ally players can look forward to previewing Default Game Profiles, a new feature that balances frame rate and energy use for select titles to give players smooth, enjoyable gameplay while extending battery life. And that’s just the beginning. Early next year, we will also roll out enhancements to the docking experience for both Xbox Ally handhelds, introduce AI-powered features like Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) and highlight reels for the Xbox Ally X, and much more."

In addition to all this, Microsoft says that Team Xbox will be making ongoing improvements to the likes of performance, battery life and handheld compatibility in the months to come.

We talked about this in our review yesterday - the launch is just the start! The ROG Xbox Ally looks set to improve significantly as we get into next year and beyond, and although the hardware will become inevitably dated over time (like any gaming PC or handheld PC in particular), it sounds like Microsoft and ASUS are going to make up for it with some awesome software enhancements.
