Assassin's Creed Franchise Lead Quits Ubisoft As New 'Vantage Studios' Label Takes Shape

Right at the start of this month — buried in and amongst all of Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass news — Ubisoft announced that it had officially spun up its 'Vantage Studios' subsidiary to handle Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six in the future - and today, the company has hit a bit of a bump in the road.

Amidst attempting to convince him to stay, Assassin's Creed franchise boss Marc-Alexis Coté has quit the company. The former Ubisoft dev worked as co-director on Assassin's Creed 3, creative director on Assassin's Creed Syndicate and producer on every AC game since, before assuming the role as franchise lead in 2022.

Here's what Ubisoft had to say on the matter in a statement to VGC:

"Following the organizational restructuring announced in March 2025, Marc-Alexis Côté has chosen to pursue a new path elsewhere outside of Ubisoft. While we are saddened to see him go, we’re confident that our talented teams will carry forward the strong foundation he helped build.

We are deeply grateful for the impact Marc-Alexis has had over the years, particularly in shaping the Assassin’s Creed brand into what it is today. His leadership, creativity, and dedication have left a lasting mark on our teams and our players. We thank him sincerely for his many contributions and wish him continued success in all his future endeavors."

It seems like a fairly amicable split, then, and we're curious to see where the Assassin's Creed series goes from here. As we previously mentioned, the franchise will now be handled by Vantage Studios, although it appears a lot of the existing Ubisoft team members will still be working on it at the new company.

Ubisoft finally released Assassin's Creed Shadows in February 2025 after numerous delays, and it continues to update that title alongside its 2023 effort Assassin's Creed Mirage. The team also has multiple AC games in the pipeline, with one of those rumoured to be a remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
