In recent years, we've heard multiple reports that Ubisoft is working on a Black Flag remake alongside its modern Assassin's Creed games, and new information on this supposed re-release suggests that things could be quite different from the original - if and when the project sees the light of day.
As reported on by French outlet Jeux Vidéo Magazine and shared by our friends at Push Square, the development team is seemingly set to remove all of the modern-day segments from its AC4 remake. This would make way for more side-content within the world itself - and added RPG elements from newer games in the series.
The open-world Caribbean setting — which was gorgeous back in the day — sounds like it'll remain similar in size and scope to the original, but with any load screens removed thanks to modern hardware. The outlet also claims that this Black Flag remake is coming out next year - potentially as soon as early 2026.
As usual with a report like this, it's worth taking all of its information with a pinch of salt, especially considering the project hasn't even been announced yet. Having said that, we've been hearing about this one since 2023, so the rumour certainly isn't going away. Let's wait and see if Ubisoft decides to show off its Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remake in the coming months.
