Halo Studios has just launched its latest event for 2021's Halo Infinite, and we're revisiting Xbox 360 classic Halo 3 in a major way as part of Operation: Legacy.
This new Operation brings together seven classic multiplayer maps into the 'Delta Arena: Halo 3 Legacy Playlist', including four never-before seen in Halo Infinite matchmaking - those being Guardian, Narrows, Cold Storage and Ghost Town.
It's not just the maps that have an old-school flavour though; the team has also made some gameplay tweaks here to make things feel like Halo 3 when hopping into this new playlist. Here's the unique ruleset for Delta Arena:
- Sprint: Disabled
- Clamber: Disabled
- Jump Height: 120%
- Starting Weapon: MA5K Avenger or BR75 Battle Rifle
(choose your favorite in the Match Composer!) - Secondary Weapon: None
- Friendly Player Collision: On
Elsewhere in Operation: Legacy, classic Halo game mode Grifball makes its grand return in Infinite - complete with a few different variants to go at here at launch. This is how Halo Studios describes the returning Grifball mode:
"Return to the original gravity-wrecking gridiron! In this amped-up version of Grifball, we’re combining wonky physics with creative combat for the most intense sportsball action yet. With full-contact equipment, third-person modes, and ten new arenas to smatter with your opponents’ bits, you’ve never seen Grifball like this.
Grifball rears its ugly head in both Classic and Thruster-equipped Octane modes—plus third-person (3P) variants for a wider look at the impending carnage."
Finally, this new Halo Infinite event has a non-Halo themed surprise tucked into it too. In collaboration with Team Ninja, Halo Studios has brought back "the legendary Dragon Ninja" armour, and you can grab it by exchanging earned Spartan Points in The Exchange. The HAYABUSA ZOKUHEN bundle is available through July 8th.
