South Of Midnight Passes 1 Million Players With The Help Of Xbox Game Pass

A couple of weeks ago now, we saw South of Midnight make its way into the top 10 most-played games on Xbox in the US - and now developer Compulsion Games has revealed that the first-party title has attracted more than one million players in its first month.

Speaking in a new interview with Game Rant, Compulsion's Guillaume Provost mentioned that he could "confidently say we've had more than a million players on South Midnight since its release". The game first landed in early access on April 3rd, before its wider Xbox Game Pass launch arrived on April 8th.

Speaking of Xbox Game Pass, this player milestone will of course have been aided by a day one XGP release - this is player numbers and not game sales, after all. Still, we think that given the smaller-scale nature of this release — and how stacked Xbox Game Pass was in April — one million players hopping into South of Midnight is pretty good going.

Elsewhere in the interview, the team said that its job "is not to make blockbusters like Call of Duty, but to provide games that add distinctiveness [...] to the portfolio", closing things out by mentioning that "it's an important role within Xbox" overall. We think so too - in fact, we reckon Compulsion could become an Xbox Game Studios gem in the coming years.
