Red Dead Redemption 2 is still an absolute looker on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but with that 30FPS frame rate cap still in place, we've always been up for Rockstar improving the experience on current-gen consoles. And, it sounds like that could be happening in the next few months.
According to the folks over at GameReactor, Rockstar is working on some new console versions of Red Dead 2. It seems that that a Nintendo Switch 2 edition is the catalyst for the team going back to its 2018 epic for a spruce up - but the outlet does claim that "it's possible that it [the next-gen patch] could be coming at the same time, or somewhat later".
As you can see by what we've quoted here, the language used is very vague - and the outlet even goes on to say that "plans can change", especially for Rockstar who will be coming to terms with its new GTA 6 delay. The team's recent Red Dead Redemption port for other systems came very much out of the blue, and we'd sort of expect a similar thing here - if it's to happen at all.
With GTA 6 now scheduled for May 2026, we'd expect Rockstar to deliver this RDR 2 port before that, if it is indeed in development. For now, this just a rumour and probably should be treated as a vague one at that - we'll have to wait and see what plans Rockstar has for its rootin' tootin' cowboy series in the coming months.
