An Xbox console is much more than just a games machine (as Don Matrick tried to tell us a decade ago) and many of us spending hours watching content on there, so ideally we want our TV apps to be running smoothly at all times.
That's usually the case, but Xbox is actually investigating an issue at the moment that causes apps to become laggy after extended playback. There's no word on how many people have been affected by this, aside from a mention that only a "small" number of reports have been filed, but we've seen a couple of references to the problem online:
Here's the official message from Team Xbox about this, as shared to Alpha Xbox Insiders last week:
"We are investigating a small number of reports with some media apps becoming laggy or sluggish after extended playback. Workaround: Switching to a game then back to the media app or quitting and relaunching the app will resolve the behavior."
Of course, it's important to differentiate this from the usual lag that apps often suffer from, such as general navigation and slow loading times. This specific issue is focused around lag that appears after a lengthy period of use.
Anyway, we're just bringing this to your attention in case you run into it - it's nothing to do with your TV or any settings you may have changed, but rather a behind-the-scenes glitch that Xbox is actively working to solve as we speak!
