Battlefield 2042 has been confirmed to only be getting seven maps at launch, but there are already long-term plans for more on the horizon. The recently formed Ripple Effect Studios has announced it will be working on bringing "fan favourite" maps to the game.

During yesterday's Future Of FPS panel hosted by EA, the general manager of Ripple Effect Studios, Christian Grass, shared a few details as to what the team is working on. It was previously said to be a "player-inspired experience for Battlefield 2042", and now it seems that will take the guise of bringing in classic maps from the franchise.

When asked whether he could reveal what he was working on for Battlefield 2042 (7:10 in the video), Grass said he "can't say that much", but elaborated that one of the components of the experience is centred around bringing fan favourite maps to the game.

"So I can't say that much about it, but what I can is this though is one of the components of this experience that we're creating is that we're adding some of the fan favourite maps back into Battlefield 2042, but the entire experience you'll have to wait a little bit longer before we reveal what that is."

The "experience", as EA is labelling it, could be the long rumoured BattleHub mode. As of now, EA has listed the mode as [REDACTED] and has only said it will be "a love letter to our core fans". According to known Battlefield leaker Tom Henderson - who also previously said classic Battlefield maps would be returning - the rumoured BattleHub will be "the ultimate sandbox experience", containing old maps running on the Battlefield 2042 engine.

Henderson also went as far as to share some of the maps he had heard could be returning. The roster contains iconic locations such as Caspian Border and Wake Island. He also added that he's not 100% sure whether BattleHub will be the feature's definitive name.

More news on the game is coming on July 22 when EA Play Live airs. It's here we'll learn about the previously mentioned "new way to play" Battlefield 2042. Could this be related to the classic maps and experience that EA is mentioning? Not long until all is revealed.
