It's hilarious to me that the people calling out others for being fanboys for defending this conference are the real fanboys themselves. Some of the stuff written on websites and discussed in forums the last couple days has, in my opinion, been simply moronic. Anybody who thought that MS was going to blow its load with games this close to E3 when you know Sony is going to be bringing it, is completely lost. It had been said time and again that the main focus of the reveal was going to be to show the console and some of its features. MS has also been very upfront about this being more of an entertainment device, even said it again at the show. That doesn't mean it won't have games. EA has already announced its support, Activision, the biggest third party, is making games for it. All the top third parties will be there and I don't care if you can find games from them on other platforms the bottomline is people who buy the Xbox One will still have stuff to play. And I know it infuriates PlayStation fanboys, but outside of Gran Turismo, Halo's and Gears' sales generally crap all over those of PlayStation exclusives. Hell, I believe both trump Metroid, one of the legendary series of this industry and one Nintendo fanboys (at least until Other M) held up as one of the 'Big 3' next to Mario and Zelda.

Here's the bottomline, if E3 comes and goes and it's exactly like this reveal conference was, then hey, slam MS all you want. But I think we have to be fair and wait to see what's on offer first.

Can we split this into paragraphs next time? Arguing against walls of text isn't as fun.

1. So it's "moronic" to want to see a couple of games during a video game console reveal? -_- Like I said, show us a couple of titles! No one asked to see everything, just something that shows us why we should play games on it!

2. I don't care what Mircosoft said. Gamers want games. We have other sources for our entertainment you know. The TV stuff is cool, but games come first. If you want to spend a couple hundred bucks for a "entertainment device" then you go ahead. The consumers won't follow you for sure. They already have things like Cable, Apple TV, smartphones and tablets, and computers that do the same things.

3. Sure it will have the multiplats to play, but with these new policies, will everyone want to play them on there?

4. Please, don't compare the same tired franchises to Nintendo's and Sony's. -_- Xbox had only two relevant IP's this generation and they got stale fast. Nintendo and Sony had a wealth of exclusives to release. And the 360 led the PS3 all of the previous gen. With a larger install base to work with, they were able to get more software sales. Don't automatically assume this will happen again. And Playstation fanboys aren't infuriated. They actually had exclusives to play the past couple of years.

5. Oh trust me, if Microsoft blows at E3, they will feel the heat from every corner of the web.

shingi_70

Why can't we  have one device that's good at doing multiple things? I just don't see it being as bad as most gamers make it out to be.

I do agree Microsoft should have showed quite a bit more in terms of games. They glossed over the gaming DVR features and I would have loved to see a Live demo of it.  I was expecting the show to close on a quick teaser real showing multiple games instead of the abrupt Ghosts dog ending,

WAT!

5. Like I posted, if E3 is the same as this event the bashing is justified. I won't join in because since February my main focus has been PS4 anyway. Right now out the big 3 that's the only console that truly interests me and I hope that Sony doesn't drop the ball when it comes to trying to sell the machine.

So someone leaked what the used game deal will probably be like.

A gamer walks into a retailer and hands over the game they wish to sell. This will only be possible at retailers who have agreed to Microsoft's T&Cs and more importantly integrated Microsoft's cloud-based Azure pre-owned system into its own.

The game is then registered as having been trade-in on Microsoft's system. The consumer who handed it over will subsequently see the game wiped from their account – hence the until now ambiguous claim from Phil Harrison that the Xbox One would have to 'check in' to Microsoft's servers every 24 hours.

The retailer can then sell the pre-owned game at whatever price they like, although as part of the system the publisher of the title in question will automatically receive a percentage cut of the sale. As will Microsoft. The retailer will pocket the rest.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. Only problem is the person buying the used game has to pay a full lisence fee on top of what's already been played. It also kills the second hand market for anyone not named Gamestop or Walmart. It also unfortunately kills rental services like Gamefly.

Or, they could do what they did. Get the bad - or what could be construed to be bad (I don't care that Kinect needs to be plugged in, for example, but others hate it) - news out of the way first, so they're on an almost negative excitement level for the machine. Then, 19 days later, blow everyone away with a games lineup that does nothing but build confidence in the console. From here, the only way is up for them in terms of promotion, all the way to launch day.

No, that's not their strategy. They're helping the competition by revealing all the negative points in a console reveal. I don't know if you heard, but Wii U sales shot up 875% on Amazon UK this week.

Yep, I did hear that. I also know that an 875% increase in Wii U sales means that the Wii U sold approximately 14 more units than it did last week. The Wii U hardware (and software, for that matter) market is absolutely flatlining in the UK, and has been for a couple of months. The largest non-specialist retailers don't even stock the thing right now. Any "massive increase" in sales has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Please know that I'm not in any way criticising the Wii U. I like mine just fine. I'm just stating the facts.

I also know that the Xbox One is at the top of the Shopto.net preorder chart, with Forza 5 sitting in second place.

Microsoft aren't blocking used games. They're allowing you to play as many used games as you want, as long as you have the licence. I know that sounds pedantic, but it's true. Sony have not announced their strategy. They've said all this stuff about "knowing what the gamer wants" and all that, but they haven't definitively said "Hey, you know what? You'll be able to lend your games to your friend, sell your games, buy games from eBay, and all that stuff! We don't care!"

When publishers flock to the Xbox One because they make first, second, third, fourth, and fifth sale profits from EVERY copy of every game they sell, Sony will quickly introduce a similar deal. That's if they don't do it before the thing launches.

IAmNotWill

You are supposed to take leaps with a new generation, not remain stagnant. Sony and Nintendo are stepping up and are welcoming indies with open arms. And I believe something changed, because those indies are raging on twitter. How do you go from having one the most popular services out there for small devs (which was Xbox Live Arcade), to completely pissing off the entire community?

Those indies are raging because nothing changed. The indies - based on nothing but rumours - were expecting it to, and Microsoft confirmed that it wasn't.

It sounds reasonable to me too. I think indie retailers will be fine, as I'm led to believe that the Azure system is accessible via a standard browser. Rather than their cash register hooking into the system, they'll just do it manually.

Microsoft has a good history of working with indie retailers, so I would hope that they don't forget about them!

My guesses

1.Quantum Break Obviously

2.Crackdown

3.Forza 5

4.???..I'm guessing its the island kid friendly game  rumored by the verge and that tech demo when they were talking about the three OS.
erCiY4I.jpg

5.Probably a placeholder logo

6.Not sure what the game is but its by Rare at the very least meaning were going to see probably two games from them at E3.

7.I was thinking it was Ryse based on the roman looking pillars in the background. However the structure to the left of it looks a bit more modern. I'm also expecting the Ryse one to have roman solider on it.

8. I'm not even sure what or who this could be. I'm guessing Maybe Lionhead I guess.

I also wish Microsoft would give a better indication of all there studios but i'm not expecting that till E3. I have partial list but Spencer hinted at studios in Japan as well.

You can joke all you want, but an increase is still an increase. Especially at 875%, right after a rival console reveal. Also, console preorders don't mean anything. The Wii U was at the top of preorder list late last year. We both know it's not selling to well right now.

I thought this was funny.

Anyway, back to debating!

1. They did show some games. No surprises and maybe it wasn't what you wanted but games were there. This close to E3, there wasn't going to be a big games blowout.

I only saw Call of Duty. I totally can't get that anywhere else!

2. Ofcourse gamers want games and Xbox One will have them.

The 3DO had games. Pretty sure the 32X and the CDi had games too. Will anyone care about these games? We'll see. The promise of 15 exclusives is the only thing the XO has going for it right now.

3. We'll have to see how the consumers react, I don't like the polices MS has enacted and from the rage I've seen from others who follow games closely many feel the same way. On the other hand though, the casual CoD buyer, the one who makes up most of the Xbox fanbase may not give a crap.

The casual COD buyer can go to the PS4 to play COD.

4. Regardless of if you like the games, they sell, and usually much better than Sony's games. I'm a PlayStation guy but not a fanboy, I realize this company's games don't sell squat at retail, it's a harsh reality but at least Sony has stuck with it for some franchises which probably should've been dropped by now like one of my favorite series inFamous.

An overstatement. Only Halo really outsells Sony's stuff. The latest Gears hasn't even reached a million sales yet. And I explained why this was in my last post.

"The Menu button (on the right) will bring up context-specific menus which game and app developers can design to enhance the user experience," Microsoft told IGN. The View button, meanwhile, "will change views or provide more information in games and apps. The function of the View button will be driven by developers. Possible uses of the View button include viewing a map during a role playing game, displaying a leaderboard in a first person shooter, and enhancing the navigation of the console's user interface."

I'm not joking in the slightest.

The Wii U has had weeks recently in the UK where sales have been in the HUNDREDS. A lot of retailers aren't even stocking the machine or software for it. That's not an exaggeration, that's a fact. But I do love the double standard that everyone is running with right now - and I don't mean from your good self. The standard appears to be:- "Wii U was at the top of the preorder charts. The Wii U isn't selling well now though. The Wii U is perfectly poised to eventually be the winner of this generation even though it isn't selling well."

Which is fine, until you mention Microsoft's preorders. Then all of a sudden "preorders mean nothing." The fact that the Xbox One and PS4 could feasibly sell more units each on day one than the entire Wii U install base means that the Wii U is in the perfect position to succeed, and the One will flop. Ok, then.

The Xbox One is going to bomb and that's the end of it, in most people's eyes. I just don't see it. Why are Nintendo in a better position, with underpowered hardware and a device that - quite frankly - a lot of consumers just do not understand? Hell, I write about games for a job, and *I* don't understand the Wii U. I bought two Pro controllers at launch, along with 6 games. Only one of those games supports the Pro controller, and I can't play NSMBU in two-player co-op, even though I have the gamepad and a Wii remote sitting here as well, because that mode ONLY works with two Wii remotes. What?!? Try explaining that to a parent that just spent £350 on a Wii U, game, and two pro controllers for her kids - see how far y'all get.

You are putting words into my mouth. I never said Microsoft wasn't blocking used games. All that article implies is that Sony won't mess with the used games market.

I really wasn't putting words in your mouth. My response was to clarify that there is a HUGE difference between blocking usage entirely, and preventing unauthorised usage. Sony saying "we will not block used games" means nothing, because Microsoft aren't "blocking" used games. What I'm trying to say, is that Sony can say "we will not block used games" over and over again, and then tell everyone that they'll be doing exactly what Microsoft are doing. They still wouldn't have lied.

Any sources? And that still doesn't make it okay. Like I said before, console makers need to make improvements with a new generation.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- … n-xbox-one - Paragraph 2. "Instead, they must seek a publishing deal either with Microsoft itself or a third-party - as is the case with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade currently."

And yes, each generation does require improvement. It isn't hard to see why Microsoft hasn't changed anything though, given how many games (1, usually 2 per week) are released on Xbox Live Arcade. For all the moaning about their publishing practices, it doesn't seem to be stopping people from releasing games on their hardware, does it?

You can joke all you want, but an increase is still an increase. Especially at 875%, right after a rival console reveal. Also, console preorders don't mean anything. The Wii U was at the top of preorder list late last year. We both know it's not selling to well right now.
