1. Actually with cable prices being what they are nowadays alot of people are cutting cable in favor of services like Hulu and Netflix, which the Xbox One will be able to stream.  So with that said they will be able to stream their favorite shows and watch them on the nice big 60 inch plasma screens rather than a computer monitor.

This is true, but these people are in the minority. How many of these non-cable people will run out and get an Xbox? Not many. Also, Apple TV and similar products exist and are pretty popular.

It's a neat feature, don't get me wrong. But it shouldn't be portrayed as the main selling point of the system, or have taken up so much time at the conference on Tuesday. How many people do you think ran out and brought a Wii U for Nintendo TVii? Do you or anyone else you know with a Wii U even use it that often?

2.  Again yes they have a smartphone but whynot have all that on a bigger screen and one that doesnt need to be charged every few hours.  Honestly I would rather have a set up like that in the living room where I can be more comfortable.

Apple TV. It's $99.

Xbox One? Probably around $500.

3.  Yeah I was being general cause alot of forums that I was reading yesterday (including Nintendo Life) alot of the people were saying oh this is going to kill MS and well they are going to be last this gen, while those same people argue that in a few years Smartphones will replace handheld systems like 3DS and Vita.

Many are calling doom and gloom because the main selling point of video game consolse are the (get ready for a shocker!) games! Smartphones are smartphones. They are going to sell regardless! Almost everyone has one. Is it wrong for any gamer to want their system to play games and focus on playing games? No.

Also, there are more reasons for the backlash. They are being reported all over the place and have been mentioned here. Used game fees, unfriendly to indies, a mandatory connection once every day, games locked to a single account, no backwards compatibility and let's not forget being charged for things you can get other places, in some cases cheaper or completely free. Those are a lot of big negatives there. Certainly enough to affect the outcome of the Xbox One.

I think that people are looking at that reveal event and taking that as the absolute end of the story - which is fair, because what was shown at the show is all the information that they have to go on.

The fact is though, that the Xbox One IS a games console. Its very clearly a games console, and a games console FIRST. The reason Microsoft left their reveal event until 19 days before E3 was simply so that, going into E3, people were talking about THEIR console. It's a bit of a bait-and-switch move, but it is also a tactic that's used in other areas of product promotion. All PR is good PR, as they say.

Also, there's something else to consider. They gave out a LOT of bad news at, or shortly after, that show.

They had two ways to deal with things. They could have given us games, games, games, got everyone excited about the machine, then let the "bad PR" points - preowned, Kinect has to be connected for the console to work, etc - come in and knock down all their hard work, then have to build up the PR hype again as the console release draws near.

Or, they could do what they did. Get the bad - or what could be construed to be bad (I don't care that Kinect needs to be plugged in, for example, but others hate it) - news out of the way first, so they're on an almost negative excitement level for the machine. Then, 19 days later, blow everyone away with a games lineup that does nothing but build confidence in the console. From here, the only way is up for them in terms of promotion, all the way to launch day.

For Sony though, they still haven't shown the machine, or confirmed their preowned strategy - which I would bet will be the same as Microsoft's, given how cagey Sony are being about it. They still may even announce that you have to pay for PSN in some way. That means that whatever people think about the PS4 now, still could potentially take a massive hit closer to launch day.

I may be wrong and Microsoft may have no strategy at all, but I can't imagine that a company with this many years of launching and promoting products would be sailing rudderless.

Regards to them being unfriendly to indies. I see why the indies are complaining, I do. What I don't see, is anyone reporting that Microsoft's policy HAS NOT CHANGED. They aren't suddenly being unfriendly to indies. They haven't come out and said "Hey, you know what? You can't publish games on our console!"

They're saying that things will be as they were.

That isn't the right strategy as things are changing, but there you go. Plus a lot of these indies had absolutely no problem publishing with Microsoft to get their game on XBLA. They were all sweetness and light to the Big M until they'd made their millions. Then they suddenly "realised" that Microsoft were being "unfair."

Take it as you will but paul Thurrott has been saying Microsoft i going to announce at build a way for indies to make apps for Windows 8/Windows Phone/Xbox One and it may be an open market.

Only fuel i've seen is this picture I took from the One hub oon the 360 dashboard.

Words with friends isn't a game its under apps. Zynga probably doesn't have a Dev Kit (they mentioned native web framework when talking the OS layers)

It's hilarious to me that the people calling out others for being fanboys for defending this conference are the real fanboys themselves. Some of the stuff written on websites and discussed in forums the last couple days has, in my opinion, been simply moronic. Anybody who thought that MS was going to blow its load with games this close to E3 when you know Sony is going to be bringing it, is completely lost. It had been said time and again that the main focus of the reveal was going to be to show the console and some of its features. MS has also been very upfront about this being more of an entertainment device, even said it again at the show. That doesn't mean it won't have games. EA has already announced its support, Activision, the biggest third party, is making games for it. All the top third parties will be there and I don't care if you can find games from them on other platforms the bottomline is people who buy the Xbox One will still have stuff to play. And I know it infuriates PlayStation fanboys, but outside of Gran Turismo, Halo's and Gears' sales generally crap all over those of PlayStation exclusives. Hell, I believe both trump Metroid, one of the legendary series of this industry and one Nintendo fanboys (at least until Other M) held up as one of the 'Big 3' next to Mario and Zelda.

Here's the bottomline, if E3 comes and goes and it's exactly like this reveal conference was, then hey, slam MS all you want. But I think we have to be fair and wait to see what's on offer first.

Hehe, I would have thought Microsoft would have been a bit careful with showing that, given that their very own Wordjax is an absolute direct rip-off of Words With Friends (which is a direct rip-off of Scrabble, of course.)

We know it's a games console. But does Microsoft know it? What we was was a glorified cable box.

You don't reveal your system that way. It was incredibly underwhelming. I mean the announcement of 15 exclusives! They could'nt show like say, 3, and detail them more aswell as others at E3? Microsoft is out of touch with the consumer. They definitely have a chance to redeem themselves though. Those 15 exclusives better be interesting.

Or you know, tease us with a few game announcements and go all out at E3. Their new policies would've drawn backlash either way, but games could've eased the pain.

Or, they could do what they did. Get the bad - or what could be construed to be bad (I don't care that Kinect needs to be plugged in, for example, but others hate it) - news out of the way first, so they're on an almost negative excitement level for the machine. From here, the only way is up for them in terms of promotion, all the way to launch day.

No, that's not their strategy. They're helping the competition by revealing all the negative points in a console reveal. I don't know if you heard, but Wii U sales shot up 875% on Amazon UK this week.

And all of the defenders are saying wait till E3, but Microsoft really hasn't had a good E3 showing in a couple of years. It's certainly possible that only a few of the 15 games will interest gamers. I know for a fact they like to spend a ton of time detailing new Kinect party games on stage every year. What I'm saying is this; if they botch E3, then what? I'm remaining optimistic, because the promise 8 new IP's is intriguing. But it's not totally inconceivable that they won't bore the crowd like the past couple of years.

Sony will not block used games. I think GameStop will like the PS4. Xbox One? Maybe not as much. And it's possible they will charge for PSN, but that's just wild speculation. No rumors or hints have popped up saying any such thing.

I may be wrong and Microsoft may have no strategy at all, but I can't imagine that a company with this many years of launching and promoting products would be sailing rudderless.

History has shown that video game companies can lose their touch. It happen to Nintendo after the SNES. It happened to Sony after the PS2. Companies taste massive success one generation, and then make bold business decisions the next gen to maximize profits at the consumer's expense. They like to assume everyone will run out and buy their system just like the previous generation.

]Regards to them being unfriendly to indies. I see why the indies are complaining, I do. What I don't see, is anyone reporting that Microsoft's policy HAS NOT CHANGED. They aren't suddenly being unfriendly to indies. They haven't come out and said "Hey, you know what? You can't publish games on our console!"

You are supposed to take leaps with a new generation, not remain stagnant. Sony and Nintendo are stepping up and are welcoming indies with open arms. And I believe something changed, because those indies are raging on twitter. How do you go from having one the most popular services out there for small devs (which was Xbox Live Arcade), to completely pissing off the entire community?

Also through some magic trickery someone from gaf was able to full screen the shot of the games hub.

Any guesses on the games?

Also again the xbone doesn't block used games either, Sony could quit easily put in drm toh ave used games need fees like Microsoft is planning to do, Technically the system wouldn't be blocking used games.

Can we split this into paragraphs next time? Arguing against walls of text isn't as fun.

1. So it's "moronic" to want to see a couple of games during a video game console reveal? -_- Like I said, show us a couple of titles! No one asked to see everything, just something that shows us why we should play games on it!

2. I don't care what Mircosoft said. Gamers want games. We have other sources for our entertainment you know. The TV stuff is cool, but games come first. If you want to spend a couple hundred bucks for a "entertainment device" then you go ahead. The consumers won't follow you for sure. They already have things like Cable, Apple TV, smartphones and tablets, and computers that do the same things.

3. Sure it will have the multiplats to play, but with these new policies, will everyone want to play them on there?

4. Please, don't compare the same tired franchises to Nintendo's and Sony's. -_- Xbox had only two relevant IP's this generation and they got stale fast. Nintendo and Sony had a wealth of exclusives to release. And the 360 led the PS3 all of the previous gen. With a larger install base to work with, they were able to get more software sales. Don't automatically assume this will happen again. And Playstation fanboys aren't infuriated. They actually had exclusives to play the past couple of years.

5. Oh trust me, if Microsoft blows at E3, they will feel the heat from every corner of the web.
