Topic: Newer Xbox Owner Wondering How to Spend Achievement Points

So I heard you can use your achievement points to deck out your avatar, and a few of my friends have avatars with crazy masks on and stuff that I don't see in the options to wear.

I searched the store but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what I can use my achievement points for and how to go about doing it?

i don't think thats possible. all i know is achievement points are just points used to boost your profile and for bragging rights as well.

I see. Well, how do people get all these crazy outfits and backgrounds and stuff? I also used to wonder that with Miis on Wii U/3DS. I see them with missing eyes and crazy hats and outfits- stuff that is NOT available in the customization menus.

Seems like no matter what system I'm on, people have these crazy decked out avatars and I can't figure out what they're doing to get them like that.

The decked out avatars come from either earning clothing/accessories in games, or from purchasing accessories and clothing from the Xbox store. Gotta pay cash though, unfortunately - as Emanouel says, achievement points are just to show off.

@SuperKMx, i think microsoft should have XBOX points in each game like nintendo does and then you can redeem them for goodies later on.

Achievement points can kind of earn you money if you join the Xbox live rewards scheme... its a bit like a store reward card, you get money back when you buy stuff off the store. They have a ranking system and the higher you are (based on your gamerscore) the bigger rebate you get. I'm on the top tier now so I get 10% back... I buy all my stuff digitally, films and TV shows too so I get quite a tidy sum back every month. Costs nothing to join...

There ARE many of these avatar items that are either exclusive to beta participation, extreme awesomeness, or simply unlocked via a certain achievement (mostly on the 360, the One seems to move away from avatars entirely), this should be noted. Achievement points however are more of an extra set of challenges for each and every game ranging from very interesting to completion of a tutorial. Bragging rights, but sometimes really cool ones.

Edit: Ken already said most of this.
