@Banjo- Hi. I have mixed feelings. You can tell it's SH game despite the different setting. There are those creatures, psychological aspect, opening lots of the doors;) but on the other hand the world is quite empty, locations very similar and the combat is... well weird. I wouldn't say it's difficult cause I don't die often but the mechanics don't feel right. Anyway it's worth playing, there is still kind of tension, plot interesting - I wanna know what's going on and where it is going but I wouldn't give it 9,5/10 or call it a masterpiece as some reviews suggest.

Banjo-

@DeadSpace Thanks! I like specific and honest impressions. I will get it further down the line like others here, I guess.

@DeadSpace though I’ve been trying to stay away from news about Silent Hill F so nothing is spoiled on me when I do finally play it, I did overhear that the game puts you in the easiest setting by default. Most think it’s in “normal” mode, but it’s actually in easy mode. Might be why it feels empty and not challenging.

I'm still going to buy Silent Hill f regardless, I gotta support the franchise and show Konami we want more games from it in the future. As for Fatal Frame 2 Remake? The new trailer looks awesome, unfinished and needing a bit more polish but awesome regardless. I have zero (pun intended) doubt that Team Ninja and Makoto Shibata will nail the landing with this game, I just hope we have a new house and expanded story that explains what happened to the Tsuchihara clan. I also feel we'll get news on standard and collectors editions in the future too.

DeadSpace

@EvilSilentFrame I'm sure you'll enjoy f. It's alright game. The plot is interesting and makes you wonder what is going on...

@DeadSpace I look forward to checking it out sometime. Right now, I have my hands full with other games and I got bills to catch up on but sometime down the line I intend to get both MGS Delta and SHf, I'm pleased to see Konami is doing what they can to right old wrongs, though they still have a ways to go when it comes to doing so, but seeing a killer remake of MGS3 and SH2 and a new SH certainly helps things.

DeadSpace

@Todd_G I'm glad they're back — so many great franchises! I just wish they would remake some more of the old ones, like Shadow of Memories, which I’ve already mentioned before. That game was truly one of a kind!
I finished Silent Hill: f yesterday — it’s a good SH, a bit different, but honestly, the new Resident Evil games are on a completely different level — much better, I think. The story in Konami’s latest game is definitely its strongest point; the rest could’ve been better. Still, I recomend it.

@EvilSilentFrame about this difficulty setting... Might be true but I remember early impresions and reviews suggesting the game is very difficult. There is a specific mechanics but once you learn it it's all right.

Guys, release date has been announced as 03/12/26 or for you folks over in the EU? 12/03/2026

Digital pre-orders are live, physical editions confirmed for all three consoles but unsure if the Switch 2 version will come on a Lame Key Card or not.

Either way, get hyped. Fatal Frame is back!

Same, I will be getting the PS5 and XBSX versions physically here. At least those will be proper. They sadly confirmed the Switch 2 version will be on a Lame Key Card, so I'm gonna have to pass, which is unfortunate. Though maybe Tecmo-Koei will strike a deal with LRG to give us collectors a proper full game on cart release sometime later. I'll gladly buy it then.

Todd_G

EvilSilentFrame

@Todd_G that is a bummer if Koei Tecmo doesn’t get the entire game on the Switch game card. I was going to get the physical version on that system. Guess I won’t be at this time. I will be preordering my Xbox version later today!

Indeed, I'll be waiting for the physical versions for PS5 and XBSX to be available for pre-order here. The game does look incredible and why do I have a feeling they're going to be expanding the story? Like new areas to explore and possibly the veil pulled back on the Tsuchihara clan? I'm seriously excited over this!

@Todd_G I’m so excited for this, and yes, I’ve definitely been thinking about the possibility of them expanding the story - maybe new areas to explore, or even new ghosts to face. If there’s more lore to uncover, I’ll be coming through every nook and cranny, looking for every note or scrap of paper I can find. I remember spending so much time researching the storylines online after playing the first two games. They were just so deep and intricately connected, yet each one stood strong on its own.

That said, I’m trying not to get my hopes too high for brand new content - I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. But honestly, even if it’s a straight up remake with upgraded visuals, sounds, and controls, I’m totally on board. It’s been so long since I’ve played Crimson Butterfly that enough of it will probably feel fresh again anyway.

I agree that it might not be an expansive remake, but I just have a hunch, the cornfield in which Mio and Mayu were featured holding hands in the trailer alone looks like a new area. I do not recall seeing that in the original whatsoever. The new dialogue in the trailer also hints that there's new cutscenes too. My hunches when it comes to this are seldom wrong.

The Wii edition had a couple new areas but they were very small. I think they were planning on one more ending but that one got scrapped. They also had plans to make Misao Amakura, the father of the girls, make an appearance but that got scrapped too. Something tells me we might get more hints about what happened to him.

As for the game itself and the way it both interconnected with Fatal Frame 1 while standing on its own? Yes, the way they pulled off Fatal Frame 2 being both a prequel and a sequel to Fatal Frame 1 was nothing short of masterful. When the timeline was revealed before the third game launched, that was when it all made sense.

Before the timeline was revealed, it was accepted that Fatal Frame 2 took place in 1956, 30 years before Fatal Frame 1. When the third game came out? That rumor was put to bed when one of the producers clarified things and stated that Fatal Frame 2 takes place in August of 1988, two years after Fatal Frame 1 and 3 months before Fatal Frame 3. I think the 30 year gap rumor had to do with the time between when Yae escaped Minakami Village, married Ryozo and ended up living in Himuro Mansion.

I actually started the series with Fatal Frame 3 and ended up playing the first two later so I was kinda confused about the placement at first. However, I was hooked on the game either way and once I figured it all out? I was shocked at how they pulled off a game being a prequel and a sequel simultaneously. To be able to pull strings like that takes a masterful stroke of the pen. It also makes you feel for Yae when all the elements come together. She had a crappy life.

@Todd_G I really hope your hunches are right — I’d love to see new areas or dialogue added in. The more they give us, the better. I just want to dive right in and soak up every bit of it. This game drove me crazy forcing me to learn as much as I could. It made me 100% complete it, and when I finally did, it still wasn’t enough. That’s when I started digging into all the lore online just to learn more.

The way they intertwined Fatal Frame 1 and 2 was absolute master class storytelling. It honestly pains me that so many people skipped out on these games — they were pure magic. Hopefully more players find this game this time around. I don’t know how they managed to craft stories that connected so seamlessly yet still stood strong on their own. I don’t remember as much about the third game; I played it once on PlayStation at a friend’s house since I didn’t own a PS2. I loved what I did play though, and I’m really hoping they eventually release the first and third again. I’d love to revisit the first, and I know the least about the third, so replaying it would be amazing.

Back to Crimson Butterfly — the timeline definitely threw me off at first, but I actually liked the bit of mystery around it. They gave you just enough to piece things together while still keeping that eerie sense of the unknown. That’s what drew me into researching the spirits afterward — learning about their lives, what led to their deaths, and the tragedies behind them. Some of them I genuinely felt sorry for, but none more so than Yae. When I finally connected the dots between the first and second game, my mind was blown. It was such a simple connection, but executed so cleverly. (Trying not to spoil too much in case someone hasn’t played yet!)

And the rituals — that’s another thing that completely fascinated me. Each game had its own distinct ritual, and the ones in Crimson Butterfly really stuck with me. The idea that twins shared one soul, and that sacrificing one would “make the soul whole again,” was both haunting and heartbreaking. Then there was the ritual involving outsiders — it added another disturbing layer to the village’s beliefs and how far they would go to appease their gods. I’d love to learn more about the origins and meanings behind these rituals if the remake expands on that lore.

Either way, I’m beyond excited to play Crimson Butterfly again. Honestly, I would’ve been perfectly happy with straight-up ports of 1, 2, and 3 — though I definitely won’t complain about improved visuals and controls. After playing part 4, I’ve been itching to revisit the classics. I liked 5, but 4 really brought back that classic Fatal Frame atmosphere for me.

Indeed, I'm glad they are using the Wii Edition as the backbone for this remake as evidenced by the behind-the-back camera perspective and the outfits being used. However, it truly looks like they're making this into the scariest version of the game yet. Seriously, it looks gorgeous yet downright spooky as hell.

I'm not surprised though, considering the pedigree Team Ninja has. I'm still shocked to see their name attached to a Fatal Frame game of all things. This is the studio that the late Tomonobu Itagaki-san (RIP) founded and made famous with the Ninja Gaiden reboot and Dead or Alive.

The fact that Tecmo-Koei put Team Ninja on the case, is releasing a physical version for PS5/XBSX and actually hyping it up? That tells me they want to see this series finally get its due. The last two sold well though, so I imagine they used that as a reason to remake this one.

Also, yes, I'm glad we both agree that the way the first three games of the series directly interconnected while standing on their own was nothing short of masterful storytelling. Perhaps they will work on finally remaking the first game after this one hits. I'd love to see that one get the mechanics updated and the backstory fleshed out too. Maybe allow us more time with Mafuyu in the beginning part of the game.

@Todd_G I never gave it a thought that this was using the Wii edition as the backbone of the game. It makes sense though why they skipped 1 and 3 and went with 2 then. 1 and 3, there’s going to be a lot more work to be done to them to get them to this level. Maybe building it all from the ground up (if they decide to remake them which I’m hoping we get something from these two games.)

I was surprised as well to learn Team Ninja was heading this one. I didn’t think they would be working on something like this. Their games are usually faster paced and totally not creepy. This is definitely a departure for them and maybe that’s what they like about it this time around. Gives them something completely different for them to work on. The fact they are working on it and releasing physical versions could show they have higher expectations this time around. Hope this sells really well as it’s such an amazing game and of course I want the series to continue.

Getting to play a bit more as Mafuyu is a great idea. I’m guessing if they remake the first one, his time is still going to be incredibly short. I think in their minds it’s going to be more drastic to have him disappear so fast. To a new player, it pulls them into the story to want to know what happened faster, but I am definitely for more playtime with him before that happens. Maybe another cut scene or two before his disappearance… Then, bring on my Miku! They can also maybe lean more into the “based on a true story.” I know it was very loosely based, but it was catchy back then and one of the things that really got me into the series.
