Topic: Gyro Aiming Now Possible For Most Games On Xbox Series S/X and One

A few weeks ago, a new controller released called the XIM Nexus. For the last 10 years, XIM has made Keyboard and Mouse adapters for consoles, using smart translators to map the analog signal to a one to one mouse output. Their latest product was the Apex. But due people buying them to abuse aim assist (since KB/M provides an accuracy advantage but retains aim assist due to still being analog input), and the component shortage driving up costs, they decided not to make any more for the time being, and instead shifted to a controller with gyroscope.

This controller uses the same smart translators their KB/M adapters used. Since Gyro aiming is essentially just mapping a mouse to a gyroscope, and they already had the ability to transform analog to a mouse like signal, it was a logical next step to simply map that signal to a gyroscope which can be used for any game on the system.

As a long time Gyro aiming connoisseur, when I first saw a post about this controller on Reddit a week ago I thought it was too good to be true. But I had to try it just to see for myself.

And to my amazement this controller exceeds expectations. Not only does it work, it actually feels more responsive and smooth than true mouse Gyro on Steam. The devs said the reason they didn’t just make an adapter that worked for controllers which already had a gyroscope, is that the tech in the current crop of controllers simply isn’t good enough to do what this controller does. And I believe it, because this thing is absolutely incredible. The gyroscope and accelerometer is on a whole other level compared to DualSense and Switch Pro.

So far, I’ve tested the following games:

  • Gears 5
  • Halo Infinite
  • Call of Duty Vanguard
  • Doom Eternal
  • The Outer Worlds
  • Monster Hunter World
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition

And it works flawlessly. This controller makes virtually every game that could benefit from Gyro aiming… playable with immaculate gyro aiming. On the Xbox. The one console where Gyro aiming was thought to be impossible due to the controller lacking the tech.

This is absolutely historic. Especially if you look at recent events with Horizon Forbidden West adding gyro, and now Fortnite adding in Gyro Aiming today, available for all platforms except Xbox. Gyro is going mainstream, and Xbox is getting left behind.

But this controller changes the game. I wanted to make this post to inform Xbox users that there is a solution that exists they can help you aim on par with a mouse and keyboard. After spending a week using this controller I ordered a second one because I can’t risk ever not having one of these to use again. And I fear the day they decide to stop making them like they did their KB/M adapter.

There is the razer turret. It's pretty responsive. Plug and play, download the app to the xb for tweaks and options, etc. $250 on the Microsoft store, so if you have reward points it'll work.

Looks interesting, will keep an eye out to see if these become available in the UK.

I have a Razer Turret and, it's a great device if you're into Keyboard and Mouse.

But only a limited number of games support KB/M, and, if you game in a recliner like I do, there isn't enough room between armrests to pull the magnetic pad out. I had to buy a Couchmaster lapboard for proper KB/M gaming.

@JaxonH would the xim nexus allow for gyro aiming on all games or the same list as kb&m?

The two have nothing to do with each other. The KB/M list depends on official KB/M support. Whereas for Nexus, all it needs is analog stick control and for XIM staff to have trained smart translators for the game, which takes about 24 hrs I hear.

This is the current list. But more games are being added every week (they just added Dying Light 2 and are working on Cyberpunk since the new patch broke compatibility).

Its unfortunate this functionality is not included 'out of the box', as although its great you can buy a pad that allows it, that wont help the majority of customers who don't want the extra expense.
At least there is an option though, so its good news

Definitely unfortunate. But as we see with PS, even when it does have native functionality, that doesn't mean most devs will utilize it. So I'm extremely grateful there's a device that makes games across the board playable with gyro aiming.

Still, Xbox needs gyro in their controller, so we can at least get the ball rolling with native adoption.

@lolwhatno Ah, yeah, Jax has been raving about this thing on Nintendo Life as well.

Price is more than a little steep for a controller, but if I end up getting an Xbox Series console, I'll definitely grab one, since I have no intention of playing shooters with pure dual analog aiming.

@lolwhatno I believe it's compatible with PS4 as well. Not PS5, as far as I'm aware, though.

@Titntin there is a new device from big big won that is an adapter for the xbox controller. itl lets you use gyro n other consoles as well as xbox. it ataches to your xbox controller. it has a dongle that you have to connect to the controller of the console you would like to use it on. the adapter also has programable paddles/ button. It is called armor x pro (only the pro version has gyro). it came out today. (https://shop.bigbigwon.com/products/bigbig-won-armorx-pro-wireless-back-button-for-xbox-series-x-s-controller). i also mentioned this on the ninto live site aswell. I already have two xim controllers, but this is a cheaper alternative that you could try out. I am going to check it out for myself to see how it compares to the nexus. it is around 899dollars.
