Topic: First Xbox X game Recommendations

Posts 1 to 19 of 19

So I've just splashed out on an Xbox X and while I wait for Starfield I could do with a game.
Don't want to waste hours feeding and tweaking questions through Google.
Then ploughing through reviews and videos and trying to filter out fanboys and bought reviews
So, top 3 Xbox exclusive games?
Exclusives please because I've had every iteration of Playstation and didn't want any repeats.
Favourite Games Uncharted, Resistance F.O.M & R2, Infamous, Cyberpunk, Ghost of Tsushima. Destiny1/2

Tricky question. Three Series X exclusives? Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Forza Horizon 5.

@Banjo- Thanks for those.. I asked for exclusives because I've had every iteration of Playstation and didn't want any repeats.

Halo MCC is best one of the best Xbox games and it runs like a dream on series X
Gears of war maybe ?

@nathanSF Halo and Gears of War games is a good choice. I prefer the latter. Then you have Rare Replay with 30 games included. A weird exclusive you may like is a Grounded. Another, Hi-Fi Rush. I loved Quantum Break.

Good call. I played a fair amount of Halo 1 & 2 on PC back in the day. Though I'm pretty much FPS'd out after so much Destiny 2 these past few years. Gears always looked good and I wished they were on PS. and will definitely put it on the top of my list.

@nathanSF I'd recommend you to start with Gears of War 1 because I consider 1, 2, 3 and 4 the best. Then there is Judgement and 5. The classics are 60fps now which is awesome.

Most of the games I was going to mention have already been recommended but I'll add Sunset Overdrive. One of Insomniac's best.

So many brilliant recommendations. Seems I made a mistake in asking for a few games to tide me over. Now I wondering if I need to buy a game pass and play catch up with recommendations here.
Looks like it's going to be the way of the Game pass.
Many thanks people. Much appreciated.
Think It's going to be Gears, Sunset and Quantum on Game pass.

Game Pass is definitely a good way to go for new Xbox users. I think some of the games on the service also have a discount which is great if there's any you like enough and want to own outright.

@Gamer83 Sunset Overdrive is great and yes, you'll have a great time with Game Pass @nathanSF.

@Banjo- @Gamer83 @Tiger77 Thanks guys. The more I look at game pass, the more appealing it becomes. I'll probably stick to having the one main disc based game on my PS5 like I usually do and use my Xbox when it arrives next Saturday for game pass games. I've pre-ordered a physical Starfield - and the headset & controller too as I usually focus on one game for long periods since I don't have much game time.

@nathanSF hi Nath, good to see you here. Coming over from the ps ecosystem. I'm afraid to tell you that Xbox has nothing comparable to ghost of tsushima. In fact Spiderman MM and GOT were my last games on the PS before migrating and are my benchmarks when it comes to their particular genres. Sunset overdrive and even the more recent Hi Fi rush are worse than Spiderman. There is nothing on xbox at the same level to GoT.

However Microsoft are lightyears ahead with Forza Horizon (honestly have a crack at FH4 it's based in the UK and is amazing!). MS Flight Simulator is the best flight sim ever made. Ori and the blind forest is imo the best metroidvania ever developed and finally you have chained echoes on gamepass which although not exclusive, is my favourite jrpg since ff10.

For action adventures, PlayStation and switch have the better options. On Xbox it's better for games outside of 3rd person action games.

@themcnoisy Thanks. My machine is arriving sometime Friday so I'll by Game pass in the morning. Will definitely check out Flight Simulator along with the other games - So many games, so little time!!
Much as I enjoyed Spider-man and the expansions. The free roaming after the game didn't appeal to me as much as wandering around Tsushima, and to a larger extent Night City, where I still occasionally venture out. Phantom Liberty and Starfield will definitely be taking up most of my time come September.

Do you like Devil May Cry and similar action games?

If so, I strongly recommend Hi-Fi Rush. Good story, good length, good soundtrack, good replayability if you're left wanting for more, funny interactions (though of course humour is a subjective thing) and references to iconic media like certain TV shows and whatnot, I really enjoyed it.

Do you like games that are like interactive movies (for example PlayStation has Until Dawn)? I strongly recommend As Dusk Falls then (though it's not horror, it's more of a family drama / crime kind of story)

Do you like Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, Bloodstained type of games? Then Ori and the Blind forest, followed by The Will of the Wisps are amazingly beautiful (Microsoft owns the IP though these two are also on Switch). Phenomenal artstyle, beautiful story and soundtrack, surprising tight controls and compelling gameplay for this 2D metroidvania.

Do you wish there were more games like Final Fantasy X, and you don't mind playing older stuff? Then Lost Odyssey, a 360 exclusive jrpg title made by the creator of Final Fantasy and with a great soundtrack composer by none other than Nobuo Uematsu. So far along the list, this is the only title that is not on Game Pass, though it is cheap and goes on sale often.

One thing that PlayStation lacks is exclusive multiplayer experiences. Maybe you'd rather play something like that instead of more single-player games. If so, I have a few suggestions.

Do you have a buddy to play with you in local co-op? The Gears games are phenomenal and hold up really well. If you don't have anyone to play with locally, you can still do so alone or with a buddy online. This also applies to Halo titles.

Do you like cars? Forza 5 is awesome.

Do you have a buddy and enjoy shenanigans that come from being able to encounter other players and hide and steal their loot, or cooperate with them, or engage in a full assault? Sea of Thieves is awesome and there's no other game quite like it. Although, it has a learning and adjusting curve, and this one in particular is better with at least another teammate.

Do you like single-player/multiplayer games? There's Grounded.

So there's a lot to go with, others have also recommended great stuff, but if you're craving for something unique then I strongly recommend all the above titles. Happy gaming

Did I hear a Rock and Stone?!

Sorry, autocorrect, and typing on the tablet is tougher. About Grounded, I forgot to add that it's a single-player/multiplayer survival game* : D

Wow, many thanks for the breakdown. Much appreciated.
I'll be sitting in front of the box when it arrives Friday to check these out.
Will definitely look at Hi-Fi Rush. Not really into Horror/Zombie stuff, but might well look at Alan Wake 2 when it's out if it has the right balance of Great story - mystery/crime/investigation elements than scares and killing stuff.
Yes. Definitely into co-op so will check out Gears - which does look like fun.
Just watched the trailer for As Dusk Falls. That one is going to be a must for sure.
Thanks again.
