Oh what could have been. If Xbox had stuck with its traditional “sell the box with exclusive content” strategy, 2025 might have been its most triumphant year yet.

After years of building up its first-party studios, Microsoft’s 2025 lineup is arguably its strongest ever. From RPGs to shooters, action-adventures to reboots, the variety and quality of titles released this year could have driven console sales and reinvigorated the Xbox brand.

Im reminiscing on the potential as I’m playing (and loving) DOOM the dark ages. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts? i think about “what if” M$ didn’t screw up the Xbone reveal & stuck to their guns with the momentum & goodwill they had from the 360; M$ would have been in the same position as the Mid-Station 5 with a console that sells itself. I really wish M$ wouldn’t have fumbled so hard because 6th & 7th generation were amazing primarily because of competition! I loved owning all 3 consoles, but now it’s just playstation & nintendo , and playstation is LAZY AF right now while nintendo is as anti-consumer and arrogant as ever! i’ve been doing my xbox gaming on PC, but i’d have love to have all 3 of the latest console brands in my setup again

MS knows exactly what they are doing. Keeping games locked to a specific console is stupid and unprofitable for a company nowadays. Besides if everything is on one console that means you don't have you spend $1500 on consoles to play every game and that means you can spend more money on games.
