Reaction: As Gran Turismo 7 Gets A Major 2025 Expansion, Forza Motorsport Deserved More

Last night, we were tuning into Sony's State of Play event to see what Xbox-related announcements would show up, as you do. Thankfully, there were quite a few relevant reveals, but one of the most interesting trailers of the evening was for a new Gran Turismo 7 expansion. GT7 Power Pack adds a bunch of cool stuff like endurance racing, full race weekends, lots of new events and more - and it made us a little bit sad about Forza Motorsport's untimely demise.

Alright, that last bit might be somewhat of an exaggeration — Phil Spencer says the game is merely on hiatus — but it's just unfortunate that 2023's FM title couldn't enjoy a slightly longer life on Xbox and PC. Here we are, in 2025, with the PlayStation equivalent getting a major expansion and a big free update besides - whilst Xbox's sim racer drifted into the ether this year following a great anniversary content drop. Forza Motorsport deserved more.

Part of FM deserving more is because the bones of Xbox's 2023 racer are actually really good. As we noted in our review from two years ago now, Forza Motorsport was always a great racer, it just needed some extra TLC to get it fully up to speed. To be honest, you could argue that it was a similar case with GT7 at launch - but Sony has continued to show tremendous support for its 2022 racer, and Xbox has practically pulled the plug on a game that launched almost two years later. It's a shame, really.

We're grateful that Turn 10 managed to at least end on a high with that anniversary update; bringing back the series' famous Fujimi Kaido track from FM4. It proved a great showpiece for what Forza Motorsport could be once everything had come together, but it could have been the start of something rather than what looks like a final chapter. Xbox's decision to reboot the series this generation made us think that the game would stick around for a while, but as things stand right now, that's not the case.

Anyway, we have Forza Horizon 6 to look forward to, which is of course a nice silver lining - but it doesn't change the fact that Forza Motorsport deserved a bit more attention, in our opinion. I personally haven't been shy in admitting that I often dabble in Gran Turismo 7 on my PS5 (blasphemy, I know), and to see it get more updates alongside its first premium expansion is fantastic stuff, really, even if FM isn't doing the same. Here's hoping the Xbox series comes back roaring again at some point in the future.
