Re: Out Today: Virtua Tennis 4 (Europe)

Reading other reviews out this game sounds terrible with kinect...incredibly unresponsive and certainly not "better with kinect" like the box says ...no suprise there then! When (if ever) will we actually see a really great kinect game?

Re: Next Generation Kinect to Be Aimed at Core Gamers, says Analyst

Have Microsoft enforced any kind of ban on developers making games for kinect that also use a pad? It wouldnt suprise me the way microsoft are but ive not heard of anything so I do wonder why no-ones combined the two yet..trouble with fps games is presumably it would be fair to let kinect players play against pad-only players due to any advantage/disadvantage there might be.

Re: Review: Carnival Games - In Action! (Xbox 360)

Glad to see a positive review for something - sounds like its worth a shot. Other reviews didn't seem as positive saying its a rental game at best. By the way slight typo I think shouldnt it say more good than bad in the 4th paragraph?

Re: Suit Up with Ubisoft's Kinect-Exclusive PowerUp Heroes

Well its becoming a cliche but it could be great IF they get the controls right. I can't imagine how well it will pick up subtle differences assuming you can do multiple "moves" with your arms. But certainly looking torward to hearing more about this one. Can't be worse than fighters uncaged surely?

Re: Expect The Second Wave of Kinect Games at E3

mastodona

I really want to be excited but is anyone else starting to think the kinect hardware itself is flawed? The more below-average games we see the more I'm coming to realise that we have experienced all kinect can manage in terms of control and accuracy, never mind only using 10% like rare claim. Sure people might come up with some nice ideas but the real lack of accuracy will stop us ever getting the sort of games we all fantasied about when we first heard about project natal. I think the proof is in the fact that even in the kinect tuner its so easy for your arms to get twisted or legs float or whole body jump from one place to another even though youre stood still. I just wish they'd stuck with the more powerful hardware driven idea instead of changing it to software and xbox running it. I'd have paid the extra for something better.

Re: Out Today: Friday 8th April 2011 (Europe)

Davahsa thank you thats the first I've ever read from someone whos played it. That does sound dissapointing it was the accuracy of the throwing etc I was interested in and was worried it wouldnt require accuracy. it is a worry that this is as good as kinect can get ...and so far no games are very accurate! If Microsoft have the ability to improve the accuracy I suggest they might want to hurry it up before everyone sells their kinects!

Decato the trouble with Gamespot user scores are ps3 fanboys troll the games and rate them all 1 or 0 out of 10...often for games not even released yet! I'd love to know what people who've actually played it think. Look forward to the review here but not holding my breath on this being good sadly.

Re: Cheap UK Kinects Down to Retailers, Not Microsoft

I actually spoke to my local tesco today as a friend was looking to buy kinect. Whilst their price has been cut to £99 they didn't actually have any in stock and apparently they weren't ordering anymore either so what does that say? Seems odd to me ....

Re: Talking Point: How Would You Bring Halo to Kinect?

mastodona

I know it may seem a backward step but I really think kinect needs some sort of controller. Whether just the usual joypad or what I don't know. I don't think it'd be backwards it still has the body tracking why not use the best of both worlds there's nothing stopping developers is there? I like the idea of a gun for shooting games, golf club for tiger woods etc but maybe that would just be over-kill like the million add-ons the Wii has. imagine a gears of war or halo where you're aiming a gun like the good old duck hunt games but you're also ducking and dodging bullets like the dodgeball games we've already got. The most obvious problem in all this to me is the actual walking around as I don't like "on the rails" holding me back! Guess you can't have that without a joypad of some sort.

Re: 343: "We Could Make a Halo Wars Sequel for Kinect"

mastodona

Maybe I should have been more clear...i meant fps could benefit, youd still need a pad or light gun to make it work but the movement/leaning etc would be a potential improvement over just a pad. I take your point about rts too maybe I wasn't thinking outside the box enough.

Re: 343: "We Could Make a Halo Wars Sequel for Kinect"

mastodona

I just don't think kinect would add anything to rts games they don't seem an obvious candidate. Can you image how many times you click the mouse playing rts games on pc? Or drag over specific units to select them? How would that translate to kinect? And would there be any benefit? Kinect seems more suited to games where you control a single character 1-2-1 hence all the sports, fitness and dancing games. I'd love to see different genres but only if they actually benefit from kinect. Fps would, rts I dont see it.

Re: Rumour: Tesco Struggling to Shift Kinect After Christmas Rush

mastodona

I think kinect is dead already...maybe I'm jumping the gun but I seriously see nothing that excites me on the horizon. I don't know how m$ sold so many of these things. The 'next wave' of games was brain training...thats it this year so far... and that apparently has worse recognition than even the launch titles. i think we've already seen all that kinect is capable of doing its not sensitive or powerful enough since they made it software rather than hardware processing. Noone wants to make games without buttons. move has buttons and even that has no good games. I guess sony and m$ should have left the motion stuff to nintendo and stuck to what made them sell consoles...games!

Re: Sega's Virtua Tennis 4 Takes Kinect to Court in 2011

mastodona

I play table tennis on sports sometimes but i find it very unreliable and unresponsive compared to some of the sports games? You can swing along time before or after the right time and still hit it and sometimes backhands are animated as forehands and vice versa. It just doesn't feel "right" but the boxing is the same its a long way off 1:1 movement. If sega can improve on it i think itll be great!

Re: Sega's Virtua Tennis 4 Takes Kinect to Court in 2011

mastodona

If its anything like tennis on the Wii we wont be doing the running! But this is great news I love this series and its about time we got news of a big game release after the tiger woods disapointment. I just hope the full game is kinect enabled not just some sort of mini game.

Re: Every Kinect Should Come With a Robot Like This One

mastodona

I just want games I can play that's the only reason i bought it not to watch people hack it and show some admittedly cool looking tech demos on super powerful pc's. I doubt anything we see from hacks will translate into games, there seems to be a lack of support from publishers despite the great sales figures.

Re: EA Ran Out of Time to Bring Tiger Woods to Kinect

mastodona

To the comment above what dont you like about EA active 2? I've just done a workout and was literally dripping with sweat and out of breath..and I'm not exactly unfit or overweight. It does what it says on the tin and is easily the best fitness game yet in terms of actually working you out..it has a few minor issues but once you turn voice recognition off (when will they fix that jukebox issue?!) and start working out its great. it got 9/10 in official xbox mag too i think, making it the highest rated kinect game so far!

Back on topic, I really do hope we get a golf game for kinect but its not going to be for a long time I guess!

Re: First Fantastic Pets Shots Show Robot Cats, Scaly Dogs and Unicorns

mastodona

Well at last we have a new xbox kinect game announced. Not really my style by the looks of it but still good news. Anyone else starting to think kinect needs to use a controller? I was suprised to hear the new tiger woods wont be kinect compatible. Very disappointing and all because there's nothing to hold in your hands. Surely they could have actually released the game with a little plastic golf club it could track? Anyway I'm going off topic lol.

Re: Avatar Kinect is Online Chat with Avatars Pulling Faces

mastodona

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised if you recall the first demos of "milo" that virtual boy supposedly reacted to facial expressions by the user. It does feel presently kinect might not be sensitive enough to do this so hopefully it does point to that increased resolution rumour.
