If Microsoft and Sony are really serious about digital then they are going to have face facts. Buying a digital copy of a game at the same or more than a physical copy is just stupid. I have no problem buying a digital copy but they have to face facts and factor in a discount that counteracts my ability to trade the game in for anything between £10 to £20. Otherwise I'm just going to wait till it is free on Games for Gold or EA Vault, buy a heavily discounted copy from Amazon a few months down the line or pick it up digitally when they offer it for £20. Or they could offer it too me digitally for £35 from the off and we'd all be happy.
@Gamer83 I would say that if the dodgy animation and general weirdness that has blighted previous iterations is a real problem for you then 16 is vastly superior. It is the best looking version yet and those moments when players did weird stuff like slide along the ground or rag doll impossibly seem, in the two or three full games I have played, to have been all but removed. I would say that at $30 or $40 this would be the version to get with the intention of then sitting out 17. The basic gameplay is very very solid.
I have played a couple of games thanks to EA Access and I have to say this years version seems, at first glance, pretty good. They have definitely gone a long way to removing a lot of the "uncanny valley" effect of weird animations and players looking weird. The new catching/defending throws meta game is cool also.
Most of the games could do with a sensitivity setting for the controls as well. I'm guessing it may be a faster processor issue but some of the controls on the early Spectrum games are overly sensitive. Oh and the ability to turn off the music in the main hub would be most welcome. It gets a bit much after a while. That being said it is an amazing collection. If we could just have the Commodore 64 Ultimate Games and Alien 8 as DLC my life would be complete. Unless Phil Spencer fancies getting a Jeff Minter Collection off of the ground. Sheep in Space, Anticipital and Revenge of the Mutant Camels on Xbox One. That would be sheer bliss.
Cannot wait too play Atic Atac, Knightlore and Sabre Wulf on my Xbox One. My inner 9 year old finds this simply mind blowing. Just saddened that Alien 8 missed out too Gunfright and that none of the Commodore 64 games (especially Entombed & Blackwyche) made the cut. It simply is one of the best releases of 2015. Now perhaps someone could suggest to Jeff Minter and Tony Crowther that they compile similar collections....
I bought this for Wii U and really enjoyed it for an hour or two. However, I hardly play Wii U because of the gamepad etc. So on a proper console with 1080p, a proper gamepad and achievements this would be pretty awesome as a downloadable title.
