I am beyond happy that Remedy did not get acquired by MS in 2016 ... I don't see a gaming industry without Control and the craziness of those Finnish guys ... it is just a bummer that they didn't get Quantum break out of MS controlling hands ...
I've always thought that getting acquired and belonging to a big corporate was a bad idea for small studios... it is true that it gives you access to more resources, but it also exposes you to accountability, and Microsoft's accountability is: are you 30%+ profitable? will you always be 30%+ profitable? unfortunately, this will be the case forever with Microsoft:
-> buy a good studio because they made one good hit -> let them take a risk -> MS chain of decision change: oh, that one studio is not doing good -> close the studio.
crossing my fingers for an Xbox / MS split for soon. I love Xbox, I have MS. but will I still love Xbox if it lands in the hands of Tencent or a Aramco investing fund? hell noway ...
