Re: Xbox President Explains Why Microsoft Ditched Its First-Party Handheld

@Gabrie

They also cut a controller in half and put a screen between like Sony did. So, maybe not better than Sony but someone from ASUS definitely took notes.

If you haven't tried the Portal I can tell you it is amazing. It can even function without the actual console through streaming from the cloud.

About comment #31 - you've accrued quite the number of straw men there.

1. PS users play a lot of games, just look at the latest circana data. The gaming world IS infested by ftp, I agree, but that is a different subject not isolated to a certain platform.

2. Have you ever visited Push square? There's droves of green team fans there doing the sort of mental gymnastics you seem to complain about. Personally, I didn't care about Xbox before this generation. GamePass, Series S and the acquisitions were so aggressive that news about Xbox started spilling over to my feed. I'm sure this is true for many (enthusiast) PS players. Usually, there was this understanding of a rising tide in the market, and since the market somewhat stagnated, competition is probably still a good thing to make everyone perform a little better. M$, however, seems to pivoting into 3rd party status and high-end PC gaming. Ever since they said Sony won the console war, they seem to inch further and further away from it.

3. I am playing R&C: Rift Apart, God of War: Ragnarok, Remastered The Last of Us 1+2 and finally Horizon Forbidden West at the moment and I could go on (but I'll keep my list to first party output). Most of these are on PS Plus, and I play on the PS5 Pro or the portal which has yielded amazing results. I did get a HUGE discount on my Pro, but I can definitely recommend this 'meagre update', but you are right to say that prices will go up, and more so if kept unchecked by a powerful direct competitor.

Re: Strange Xbox Email Suggests Game Pass Price Increase Doesn't Apply To Certain Members

@REALAIS

People are posting messages from M$ on Reddit saying it won't affect their subscription if it is an auto-recurring plan.

You could EASILY understand that as the price is staying where it is for them (UNLESS they cancel. Which many did out of anger over the news). That, to me at least, is a bait and switch.

Either way, the messaging from M$ is not great, and you see how people are slightly annoyed with even how they market the next round of games.

@REALAIS

As I read it, certain people are kept on their current payment tier but you postulate that what M$ wrote equates to "We'll raise you in 60 days!?" That's not how I understand it.

"Our recent Game Pass update remains unchanged. Current subscribers in certain countries will continue renewing at their existing price for now, in line with local requirements. We’ll provide advance notice before price adjustments take effect in these countries."

@Questionable_Duck

I can see where you're coming from.

There's diminishing returns on graphics, so the need to improve your gaming systems become less important.

Playing Horizon Forbidden West on a PS5 Pro with a good screen and a quality headset is ... so incredible that I feel like a child again that I could never ask for more graphics wise. Sure, I could imagine improvements in other areas drive the innovation, but why upgrade to something more.

The new Playstation will maybe not be able to surpass its' predecessors sales numbers and Sony might know or calculate with this.

@Soup-Rules

"All we hear is how Xbox doesn't sell consoles and the playstation is selling like hot cakes, but the apparently our small user base that takes advantage of gamepass is ruining the industry 🤷
It just stings them because they love their playstations. It's super successful and has great exclusives, but they don't have gamepass on it with its amazing value and that makes them sad pandas"

Sony Pony Panda here - You are partly right!

Let's put aside my entrenched viewpoints that GP isn't optimal for the industry and it effectively made M$ into a publisher.*

When I see a great game on Game pass that costs a lot of money on Playstation, I'm like: "OKAY, I'll wait until I can get a comparable good deal on it." That is either common sense or jealously. You decide for yourself.

*I have suspicions that this may be a temporary move to mitigate the lost revenue based on their internal projections. Xbox MAY launch a new console and make newer games exclusive. They could if they wanted to.

Re: Sony Has Approached Subscriptions 'Healthier' Than Xbox, Says Former PlayStation Boss

EfYI

Sony Pony here since the very first Playstation.

I think GamePass is unsustainable and I have been gobsmacked over the fact that up until the point Sony smashed the walls of its ecosystem Microsoft was essentially bankrolling their gamers for their loyalty to the brand. Now, they're allowed on PS and it is essentially users in the PS ecosystem that are co-bankrolling the entire operation. Some say that they are actually paying for GP, but I just KEEP reading how different users subsidize a lot of the costs in different ways.

GREAT for you guys, really. But I can't help but wonder when/if Microsoft chooses to raise subscription prices even further.
