Re: Xbox Announces Permanent Price Cut For Series X|S Storage Expansion Cards

Arthur_Morgan

@soimun All UK prices include VAT, but US prices have a state-specific checkout tax in addition to the RRP. Only five states do not charge sales tax on electronic goods. The "real" price in most states varies between $175.50 and $190.50. Naturally, there are several additional considerations to keep in mind when exchanging currencies, but the UK receives a very fair deal compared to the Eurozone, Australia, South America, and Asia where regional pricing is applied.

Re: SEGA Confirms Plans To Acquire Angry Birds Creator For €706 Million

Arthur_Morgan

This purchase is largely for the Rovio's expertise over the Angry Bird IP'. 19% above market is not a bad premium if it leads to a successful launch into the mobile space utilising Sega's IP's.

Sega's growth strategy to invest up
to 250 billion yen during the next five-years is a with a billion dollars still in play I guess watch this space.

Re: Talking Point: Will We See New Xbox Hardware By The End Of 2024?

Arthur_Morgan

@Banjo- "these KIND of percentages are fairly common for Xbox" the article makes no mention of 80 to 20% also AC Valhalla was reported to have sold 42 percent of sales on PS4, 18 on PS5, and the remaining 40 across all Xbox platforms. The Overall performance of all games may be different with all tallies taken into account however by in large third party titles sell more copies on the PS platform so I fail to see where the article misinforms even if makes for uncomfortable reading.

Re: Talking Point: Red Dead 2's Five-Year Anniversary Is Upon Us, How About A Next-Gen Upgrade?

Arthur_Morgan

@Pixelhips You understand that the vast majority of remakes / next-gen updates are not handled by the main development teams. Rockstar didn't say "hey let's release GTA V and make them wait longer for GTA 6". It's far more complex than that. These ports are made by third-party developers or small in house teams. If your annoyed that people keep purchasing them then that's just horses and courses.

Re: Ubisoft Shares A New Look At 30 Minutes Of Skull & Bones Gameplay

Arthur_Morgan

@Cyberpsycho they are unable to cancel this title due to contractual obligations. The game has cost Ubisoft upwards of $120 million, but that figure has been reduced by generous subsidized by the Singapore government, where the main development studio is based. The funding included the mass hiring of people at the Ubisoft Singapore studio and the mandate that the studio release original IPs over the next few years. This game has to come out in some shape or form. I agree it looks awful.

Re: Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Praises Sony's New PS5 Accessibility Controller

Phil Spencer: sends a tweet

The Internet: "why can't you just do your job this is why we everything is delayed".

I would like to say how refreshing it is to have a Phil taking the time to highlight and promote a positive attitude towards great games, accessibility and gaming in general regardless of the platform. Some folk just love console wars and it really irks them that the chief is not leading the line.

Re: FTC Files Lawsuit To Block Microsoft's Takeover Of Activision Blizzard

@cragis0001 I am not sure you understood my point. Yes, Sony would love to obliterate the market in the same way as Amazon, Apple, Google and MS. All big tech investment is based on investing money into the firm you believe to have the best chance of market dominance. It's the job of marketing and PR teams to "control the message". The sega debacle has had zero effect on Sony's raising to where they are today. Being emotionally charged by big market decisions is a waste of time. There are no good guys or bad guys. They are all competing in the same space for the same thing "dominance". Huge profit making corporations are not our friends. You as the consumer vote with your wallet. Jim Ryan doesn't lose a single moment of sleep that someone maybe unhappy with his statement if that statement has its desired effect. It's that simple.

Re: FTC Files Lawsuit To Block Microsoft's Takeover Of Activision Blizzard

@JayJ yeah, I will respectfully disagree. The reason that this is such a point of contention is due to the scale of the merger nothing more. The bethesda deal went through and at the time that was the largest and still is in history. Should you agree with Sony's points or not I personally mostly don't however if I was in their position, of course, I would move heaven and earth to block the deal. The video game landscape is very different from the PS1 days, PS2 where Sony was unchallenged as Xbox was finding its feet, 360 vs PS3 where Xbox came into its own and PS4 vs Xbox one was over before it even began thanks to a haphazard launch. MS brought a load of Studios as did Sony. However, never has anyone attempted such a large acquisition the size of which was never going to go through without scrutiny. You can argue Sony has used tactics you disagreed with in the past however it's an objective fact this is an unprecedented deal and will set the status quo, on mergers going forward.

Re: FTC Files Lawsuit To Block Microsoft's Takeover Of Activision Blizzard

@JayJ I am not sure how old you are but yes many people were unhappy with the Sega and Sony situation. Sega had commercial failures in the second half of the decade with the 32X, Saturn, and Dreamcast, as the company's market strategy changed and console newcomer Sony became dominant with the PlayStation. The entire industry was worth less than 20 billion dollars. There are no "good" vs "bad" guys. It's all PR marketing and attempts to gain a market position from two massive corporations. Not worth any emotional investment.
