Saddle up Marines! It's official, Halo: Campaign Evolved has now gone gold ahead of its July 28, 2026 release on Xbox Series X|S and, for the first time in the franchise's history, PS5. Hoorah!
If you've bagged yourself the Premium Edition or Premium Upgrade Edition, Early Access begins on July 23 and comes with a bunch of extra digital goodies, including an art book, weapon and armour skins, and even a digital game manual. Not quite as cool as a physical one, but it's a nice touch of nostalgia, I suppose!
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a fleshed-out remake of the original 2001 campaign, featuring enhanced co-op gameplay and three brand-new prequel missions starring Sgt. Avery Johnson and Master Chief. It's a shame though, as there's no PvP multiplayer component this time around.
Halo Studios wants Campaign Evolved to reclaim its "graphical powerhouse" moniker, utilising all the modern bells and whistles the Unreal Engine brings.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a faithful yet modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign. Experience the original story rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics, refined controls, plus a brand-new three-mission adventure. Play it your way: solo, in 2-player split-screen co-op (console only), or up to 4-player online co-op with full crossplay and cross-progression support.
As someone who's grown alongside Halo, played through all of Master Chief's adventures, read the books, and spent years wishing upon a ring for a new mainline entry, seeing a modern take on where it all began for me launch on Xbox and PS5 is genuinely exciting. Hopefully it gives the franchise a huge momentum shift, and selfishly, helps pave the way for a proper sequel to Halo Infinite. Typical Halo fan, already wanting more, eh?
Halo: Campaign Evolved is releasing July 28 onto Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
