The big topic this week has centred around PlayStation dropping support for physical discs as of 2028, and Halo Studios has made a point of highlighting that Halo: Campaign Evolved will get a disc when it releases this month.
This was referenced as part of a new Q&A on the Halo Waypoint website, with the accompanying tweet racking up almost 1 million views in the process. There are obviously many other topics in the Q&A itself, but it's the bit about physical discs that's getting all the attention.
Here's what they say in the Q&A about it, along with a look at the viral tweet:
Q: If I buy Halo: Campaign Evolved at a retail store, will there be a disc in the box?
A: Yes! Buying the XBOX or PlayStation version of Halo: Campaign Evolved at your local retailer will result in getting the physical game case and disc so that you have tangible items to add to your collection.
There's one notable caveat here, which is that the Halo: Campaign Evolved box mentions it requires a "content download" in order to function. The specifics have yet to be revealed, but we assume the game is too big to fit on a single disc, and therefore you'll need to connect to the internet to download the rest of it.
From a game preservation standpoint, that's obviously not good. It's better than nothing though, and if it's the difference between getting a physical release or not getting one at all, we'll take it.
But what are your thoughts on the situation? Will you be getting the physical release? Tell us down below.
