Three Xbox-Specific Takeaways From The GTA 6 Extended Preview

Update []: Turns out the preload date was actually confirmed some time ago! We somehow hadn't come across it until now, but we'll leave the information down below for anyone else who missed it originally.

Original Story: The GTA 6 Extended Preview is in the books! We've covered some initial impressions and the hands-off previews elsewhere on Pure Xbox, but we also wanted to highlight some Xbox-specific takeaways from the stream.

As you may have seen, the gameplay was recorded on PS5 for the Extended Preview, but we've seen enough to suggest that the Series X version will look phenomenal as well, and we can't wait to dive in on November 19th.

Anyway, let's look at these three initial takeaways:

1. Xbox Series X Will Almost Certainly Be Locked To 30FPS, But It Looks Incredible Regardless

There's no doubt that GTA 6 is shaping up to be one of the most visually impressive video games of all time, and Rockstar Games says that the Extended Preview was captured on PS5 - although we've not seen any definitive confirmation of whether it was a base PS5 or the more powerful PS5 Pro.

Either way, we reckon this could be the ultimate representation of the Xbox Series X's visuals at their absolute best, which should make up for what almost certainly appears to be a 30FPS limit. There's word doing the rounds that Rockstar North has "confirmed" 30FPS (although again, we haven't seen anything official), so it's best not to expect 60FPS until Xbox Project Helix rolls around.

2. The Xbox Series S Will Be Pushed To Its Limits

The big question on many Xbox fans' minds after the Extended Look is how GTA 6 will perform on Xbox Series S, and it's safe to say it's a game that will absolutely push the lesser-powered machine to its limits.

Honestly, it's hard to see how they're going to squeeze such a massive and detailed world into a format that can run well on the system, but other development teams have worked their magic on it before, and we reckon Rockstar Games has the knowhow to make it happen.

Also, let's not forget that GTA 6 will eventually end up on PC, and they'll have to find a way to scale down to "Low" and "Medium" settings for lesser-powered machines. Let's have faith that the Series S version will hold up this November!

3. Xbox Preloads Officially Begin On November 12th, Including For "Physical" Copies

We've got an official GTA 6 preload date for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S! Although it wasn't mentioned in the Extended Preview itself, IGN highlighted the date as part of the extra coverage as November 12th, 2026.

They've even mentioned that if you pre-order the "physical" version of GTA 6 for Xbox Series X (which is actually just a code in a box), you'll still get it shipped to you on November 12th, meaning you can preload ahead of the release date.

It's clear there's still a lot more for us to learn about GTA 6 and how it'll work on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in the weeks to come, but today's Extended Preview and related coverage has at least provided a bit more clarification.
