We're sure you're aware that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is officially out now on Xbox Game Pass, but what you might not know is that the Xbox Series X version actually performs best out of all consoles, including the PS5 Pro.

The surprising discovery was made by Digital Foundry during their analysis of the game, with the team pointing out that the Xbox Series X "consistently delivers a tighter frame-rate and better optimisation" over PlayStation.

"Perhaps the most surprising finding in our testing is the performance lead held by the Xbox Series X. Across various modes, including the 120Hz unlocked setting, the Series X consistently delivers a tighter frame-rate and better optimisation than its PlayStation counterparts, even when running at identical resolution targets. While the exact reason for this lead remains unclear, it currently stands as the most performant platform for the game."

Nevertheless, this doesn't tell the whole story. Digital Foundry still describes the PS5 Pro version as "a class apart" due to various exclusive enhancements such as Sony's PSSR upscaling, which results in sharp[er] distant details, such as foliage and branches, while significantly reducing shimmer and banding during camera movement" compared to standard TAA upscaling.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S version is described as "visually impressive, with carefully managed draw distances and environmental assets ensuring the core experience stays intact".

There's a lot more to discover in the video above and the accompanying Digital Foundry article, but the key takeaway is that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a fantastic experience across any console you decide to play it on, and the team also reckons it's a "visual triumph" and a "must-play title for fans of the series". High praise indeed!
