Yesterday afternoon, a new 30-minute gameplay demo for Fable suddenly appeared on the official Xbox YouTube channel, giving us our best glimpse yet at what to expect from the Playground Games reboot in February 2027.

You can watch the full thing up above (seriously, it's well worth it), and it's no surprise that the reaction has been a largely positive one amongst Xbox and Fable fans. We've been scouring the likes of Reddit and Twitter to see what people have to say, and even though it's not all good stuff, there's definitely a lot of excitement floating around.

Here are some examples:

The folks over at Eurogamer and IGN also had the following to say in their preview of the gameplay:

Eurogamer:

"I've seen a good half hour of continuous gameplay and, although it comes with plenty of caveats, it really was fantastic. Playground Games' Fable reboot looks to be silly, crass, British, beautiful, systemic, and maybe a little overambitious. In other words it looks like Fable. Indeed few things are more Fable than promising the Moon, after all - 1,000 unique, romanceable, morality driven NPCs! Each with reactive personalities of their own! - and in turn leaving eager players wondering if you can really pull it off. This first look offers some promise that Playground can. And maybe more importantly, that its developers actually get Fable well enough that they know they need to try."

IGN

"I'm pretty sold on Fable's "game within a game," which was an important part of what made the original trilogy unique and special and is, thus, important for this Fable to get right. I should add that, seeing Fable running live on a Series X, it looks absolutely gorgeous. It's wild to think that it's running on ForzaTech, an engine that has powered over a dozen racing games over the years. I absolutely can't wait to play it, and it remains the first-party Xbox game I'm looking forward to above all others."

So what are those "minor concerns" we mentioned? Well, the majority of them relate to the lip-syncing in the cutscenes, which admittedly does seem like it needs more work. There's obviously time to improve them between now and February 2027, but at the moment they don't match up as well as we'd hoped they would.

The other thing is the combat at the end of the demo, which is being described as looking a little "stiff" by some folk. This one's less of a concern for us - it might appear a bit clunky at times, but still seems enjoyable and reminiscent of the likes of Hogwarts Legacy and past Fable games.

What's your verdict though? Are you also hyped for Fable based on this 30-minute gameplay demo, or have some minor concerns started to filter in? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments section below.
