ROG Xbox Ally X20 Marks The 'Opportunity Of A Lifetime', But Expect A High Price

It was back on the 1st of June that ASUS revealed the ROG Xbox Ally X20, serving as an upgraded version of the ROG Xbox Ally X with a bigger display, OLED screen, TMR joysticks and various other enhancements.

We haven't really heard about it much ever since, but the folks over at Forbes have been talking to ROG's Director of Product, Gaming (Gabriel Meng) about why it exists and what kind of potential price we're looking at.

Firstly, why it exists - Meng says "the opportunity of a lifetime showed up" to release a new Xbox handheld in a short space of time, and that essentially all the pieces fell into place to make it happen.

"What I would call the opportunity of a lifetime showed up,” Meng explained excitedly. "There was an opportunity to seize and bring it to the market extremely fast, extremely early."

At the moment, we don't have a release date for the ROG Xbox Ally X20, but Meng's comments certainly suggest it's locked in for 2026. Some people have even been hands-on with it already, and they've been impressed so far!

But what about the price? Well, we still don't have any definitive answers yet, but we're expecting it to be high. You've probably heard about the component shortage that's causing major issues for Xbox and beyond right now, and Meng admitted in this interview that any rising prices for components will have to "pass through the consumer".

“If those components end up costing us more, then that’s unfortunately something that's going to be unable to be subsidized, “ Meng said. That will pass through the consumer.”

We'll obviously be keeping an eye on this device in the days, weeks and months to come, and we'll let you know when more concrete details are shared about it. Just be aware that we might be looking at 1K or above in terms of cost!

Don't forget about the existing ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handhelds as well, which are both fantastic devices that won't break the bank quite as much. I've been using my Ally X on a daily basis for almost nine months now, and it's been everything I'd hoped it'd be.
