Matt Booty Explains Xbox's Plans For Exclusive Games Going Forward

Following today's Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Xbox's Chief Content Officer (Matt Booty) appeared an interview with Gamertag Radio host Parris, and he was asked about Xbox's announcement of two new console exclusives.

Booty explained that the team at Xbox are aware of how important exclusives are, and they want to reward the fans as well, but they'll be judging things on a case-by-case basis. He mentions that big multiplayer games will continue to launch across all platforms, but the single-player titles remain to be seen.

Here's exactly what Booty had to say:

"We want a reason for people to get on board with Xbox, we want them to have a reason to buy an Xbox, we want them to have a reason to be an Xbox fan. At the same time, we want to reward all our players that have been with us for a long time - we know that exclusives are important, and that's why we've got Gears coming in 2026 and Clockwork [Revolution] coming in 2027."

"We also want to be clear that our big multiplayer games and live service games are going to continue to be multiplatform. If we've promised something to players already, we're going to honour that promise. And then, we're going to make the right decision and not the fastest decision - we're going to keep thinking about this going forward... and our principle is, when we announce the date, we announce the platforms. So, it's going to be case-by-case, but we're going to be clear."

For those who haven't caught up yet, both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution were announced as Xbox console exclusives at today's Xbox Games Showcase, meaning they won't be coming to PS5 or Switch 2.

It certainly sounds like we're going to be getting a lot more exclusives down the road, but not in the case of big multiplayer titles. The likes of Halo: Campaign Evolved and Fable were both reconfirmed for PS5 in today's event as well, which follows the whole idea of "honouring a promise" that Booty speaks about above.
