After odd teases here and there — often from strange third-party sources like Fanta — Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward has officially confirmed that it's making a new Modern Warfare game this year, and it sounds as though it'll be an ambitious title from the long-time COD dev.
The news initially came from the revived Call of Duty podcast this week (also known as 'COD POD'), and was quickly followed up by direct confirmation from the team on social media. Here's their teaser for the full podcast, and indeed the next Call of Duty game:
Infinity Ward also shared an interesting mission statement on what they're building for COD 2026; we'll throw that down below as well:
"WE ARE INFINITY WARD.
We build visceral, immersive combat experiences that hit different.
As a new chapter begins for this studio, we're focused on what defines us: passion, precision, obsession, and an unrelenting drive to make the best entertainment in the industry.
Our next game is the result of that mindset.
Determined. Bold. Relentless. Built by a team pushing every detail, every system, every moment to its limit.
On behalf of everyone at IW, we're proud of what we've been building and excited to finally start sharing it with you.
Mark and Jack
Studio Heads IW"
After the disappointment of Black Ops 7 last year, we're hoping that Infinity Ward & co. can deliver a return to form this year - it certainly sounds like they're being more ambitious with this release. We've also heard that COD 2026 will be ditching PS4 and Xbox One for the first time in ages, which should help them deliver a stronger effort for current-gen consoles and PC.
With marketing now ramping up for this new Modern Warfare game, you can probably expect a proper reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase next month, likely followed up by a decided Call of Duty event further into summer.
