It never really seemed like Blindfire performed very well though — it has a "Mixed" rating on Steam and a 2.6/5 rating on the Xbox Store based on over 200 user reviews — and to be honest, we've heard nothing about it for ages now.
Perhaps that's why the developers have decided to make it free this week! If you go on the official Blindfire page on the Xbox Store, it's now stating that "Blindfire will be available to download for free from May 5th 2026" (both the PC and PS5 versions will be also be going free on the same date if you're interested).
For those who haven't come across it before, the concept behind Blindfire is that it's a pitch-black arena shooter in which you need to make use of visual and auditory aids to help locate your opponents. One of the biggest criticisms in recent reviews is that the playerbase has dwindled down to very few people, so here's hoping that by making it free, Blindfire will enjoy a resurgence here in 2026.
It's worth a try at least, right? Check the Xbox Store on Tuesday to grab your free version of Blindfire, and if you really want to play it before then, there's a also a timed free trial that you can access immediately.
"Blindfire will be available to download for free from May 5th 2026. Blindfire delivers unique FPS action in pitch-black arenas. Rely on sound and high-tech gadgets to develop your skills in new ways. Ideal for quick, high-tension matches with friends."
