Recently, we've heard how Asha Sharma is interested in finding ways to make Xbox Game Pass less expensive and more "flexible" in the future, which various rumours swirling about how that might be achieved.

When Sharma's leaked memo about reducing the price of Game Pass was revealed, former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden had some pretty critical words to share about XGP in general, stating that it had "unfavorable diagnostics and a grim prognosis", and that the entire industry would benefit from a "clarifying post mortem".

Here's exactly what he had to say on his LinkedIn page:

"They are trying so hard to will this into health, despite unfavorable diagnostics and a grim prognosis. A clarifying post mortem would do the entire industry some good."

To everyone's surprise, new Xbox boss Asha Sharma then responded to Layden a few days ago, simply stating that she would "love to chat sometime" to the ex-PlayStation head about his thoughts.

Clearly, Sharma is interested in hearing all viewpoints about everything to do with Xbox right now โ€” and that seems to be a great sign for the brand going forward. She appears to be investigating all angles to try and get the full picture of how people feel โ€” both positive and negative โ€” and that should ultimately lead to a better product in the future.

That said, we don't think Xbox Game Pass has reached the point of needing a "post mortem" by any means, and as consumers at least, we've been really impressed with many of the games it's been adding in 2026 so far. It'd be a massive shame to see it go away entirely, but here's hoping that by talking to the likes of Layden, as well as people who are more positive about XGP's outlook, the new Xbox boss will find a way to make Game Pass work for everyone more efficiently throughout the rest of the year and beyond.
