If we go back to this time last year, we mentioned how then-Xbox boss Phil Spencer was "excited" about the ongoing rollout of Microsoft Gaming Copilot - an AI-powered service that aims to provide support for your Xbox experience.
It's a service that's proved controversial with Xbox fans without a doubt, but it's continued to evolve over the past 12 months, to the point where it's now available on mobile, PC and the recently released ROG Xbox Ally handheld. And, as part of GDC earlier this month, it was announced to be coming to "current-gen consoles" later in 2026.
The full presentation from that event hasn't been shared online yet, but we do have some footage of a Copilot demonstration hinting about how it'll work on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S when it eventually arrives, with the video showing off some AI assistance for stuck players in Forza Horizon 5, Sea Of Thieves and Diablo IV.
Here's a look:
Kotaku was in attendance at this specific talk at GDC, and according to the outlet, it was mentioned that Xbox is "exploring" ways to help content creators who build guide-related content that's used by Copilot:
"In fact, Yadav spent the last chunk of her time during the presentation talking about how important content creators are to the gaming ecosystem and the need to reward them for their contributions."
"Yadav said Xbox is “exploring” ways to license gaming content from creators that’s used by Gaming Copilot to improve the experience of players on the platform."
In addition, the team shared some interesting data about their early testing for Gaming Copilot, mentioning how in-game assistance was the most popular use for the service at 30%, followed by Xbox Store recommendations at 25%, and "just people talking to Copilot for the hell of it" at 19%!
There's no official release date for Gaming Copilot on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S just yet, but it does indeed look like we'll be getting it at some point in 2026, and it'll be interesting to see what the reception is like when it arrives.
We'll leave you with a quick look at how Copilot already works on the ROG Xbox Ally handheld:
