It's been eons at this point since The Elder Scrolls 6 was first announced (all the way back in 2018, if you're keeping score), and to this day, we actually know very little about what to expect from the next TES game. While those details remain elusive for the time being, Bethesda's Todd Howard has been talking about the game from a high level again this week - touching on how it will be a more "classic" BGS RPG experience.
Here's a quote from Mr. Howard on this, from his recent chat with Kinda Funny:
"We do have a certain style that we like, and our fans like, that we want to get better and better at. I think in some ways Fallout 76 and Starfield are a little bit of a creative detour from that classic Elder Scrolls, Fallout where you're exploring the world in certain way - you know, as we come back to The Elder Scrolls 6 that we're doing now, we're coming back to that classic style that we've missed and that we know really really well,"
Howard then talks a little bit about the tech behind TES6, and how the team is moving to Creation Engine 3 for this next Elder Scrolls game and "beyond". Indeed, the team has been evolving its game engine for a while now, and it's "about to pass a bit milestone internally" as it progresses towards finally getting The Elder Scrolls 6 in the hands of fans.
"It's going well, we're happy with it... it’s going to be a while yet but we’re happy with where we've pushed the technology and how the game is coming together. We’re able to play it, we're about to pass a big milestone internally, the majority of our studio is on the game - and some of our partners."
It sounds as though things are progressing well with The Elder Scrolls 6, then, despite the agonising wait for more concrete details - and eventually, a proper gameplay showcase of course. We'll throw Todd's big Kinda Funny Gamescast interview down below, alongside a summary of his Starfield chat which we've covered elsewhere at Pure Xbox.
