Bethesda's Todd Howard has been talking to GQ Magazine as part of a Fallout 4 interview today to mark the game's 10th anniversary, mentioning during the chat how The Elder Scrolls 6 is an "everyday" focus at the company now.

When specifically asked what the company is working on, Howard advised that hundreds of people are also working on Fallout as things stand, both in terms of Fallout 76 and "other things we're doing".

"What are you working on right now?

We have hundreds of people on Fallout right now, with 76 and some other things we're doing, but The Elder Scrolls 6 is the everyday thing."

In terms of those "other things", it's been rumoured that a Fallout 3 remaster is in the works (it was actually mentioned as part of a massive Xbox leak a few years ago), but otherwise it remains to be seen what they're working on.

Howard shared a similar tease during Fallout Day 2025 recently, but didn't provide any further details.

The main takeaway from this new GQ interview is that The Elder Scrolls 6, while clearly being in active development, is "still a long way off". Howard mentioned how he doesn't want "fans to feel anxious" and so he's making it clear that patience is needed - it sounds like we're still looking at multiple years before it's ready to go.

Nevertheless, apparently they just had a "big play test" for ES6 inside of the studio, so it's coming along to some degree.

Finally, Howard teased that The Elder Scrolls 6 could be in line for a shadow drop when it does release. He mentioned how the shadow drop of Oblivion Remastered "worked out well", but didn't commit to doing the same thing for ES6.

"I like to just announce stuff and release it. My perfect version – and I’m not saying this is going to happen – is that it's going to be a while and then, one day, the game will just appear.

You shadow-dropped Oblivion: Remastered in April. Could you actually do that with The Elder Scrolls 6?

You might say that was a test run. It worked out well."
