A new collection of classic games has been announced this evening in the form of the Marvel MaXimum Collection, which doesn't have a release date just yet, but will definitely be coming to PC, Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
The collection bundles six games, with multiple versions for most of them. They are as follows:
1. X-Men: The Arcade Game (Arcade)
"The definitive mutant beat-’em-up returns! Experience the legendary cabinet action with full online multiplayer support for up to six players. Choose your favorite X-Man and take on Magneto’s army with the ultimate team-up experience."
2. Captain America and The Avengers (Arcade, Sega® Genesis/Mega Drive, NES)
Take control of Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Vision as you experience the cinematic arcade original or the unique platforming spin of the NES.
3. Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage (Super Nintendo™, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive)
Based on the iconic comic crossover, gamers take to the streets of NYC battling hordes of nefarious bad guys, all to the sound of a rockin’ 16-bit soundtrack! Switch between the rich color palette of the Super Nintendo version, or dive in and enjoy the Genesis/Mega Drive version’s gritty vibe. Whatever you choose, carnage is guaranteed!
4. Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive)
The superlative symbiote sequel! Go solo or team up in two-player co-op to take on the Life Foundation and Carnage’s offspring.
5. Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge (Super Nintendo™, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Game Boy™, Game Gear™)
Navigate Arcade’s deadly "Murderworld." This collection includes the handheld versions of the game, offering a fascinating look at Marvel's history of on-the-go gaming.
6. Silver Surfer (NES)
Test your Super Hero skills against one of the most infamously challenging shooters to ever grace a console! Featuring one of the greatest soundtracks in 8-bit history, this is a shooter that’s tough to master and tougher to put down!
As you'd expect, there are some additional features too. You can rewind gameplay, take advantage of save states, utilise the likes of CRT and scanline filters, listen to music, and look at high-resolution box art, manuals and ads.
There's no release date yet for the Marvel MaXimum Collection as mentioned, and no price has been revealed yet either. Fingers crossed we won't be waiting too long for this one to arrive on Xbox Series X, Series S and beyond!
MARVEL MaXimum Collection is action-packed, featuring 13 comic-to-console and handheld counterpart titles from the past! And of course, arcade perfection is delivered with the legendary X-Men: The Arcade Game! With all new music from legendary game composer Chris Huelsbeck and robust new features, MARVEL MaXimum Collection is the perfect assortment of nostalgia for fans everywhere!

Hoping they added a few more games, as it's really weird they got through the web of Marvel, Konami, & Sega licensing nonsense and didn't include as many games as possible. Really want Spider-Man: The Game in particular but I know there's a few more X-Men games people remember fondly.
@shoeses I love how people make licensing seem like an impossible hurdle. And then all of a sudden it’s not. Just pay for the rights and that’s it. Forza is the worst at this. Theres ways not to let these games die after a few years.
@sixrings "Just pay for the rights and that’s it." Except you have to keep paying to renew them. And believe it or not, paying money for infinity for things that usually stop selling after the first few months is not super profitable for most companies.
@sixrings it's not that simple, unfortunately.
@Markatron84 I dunno. Scott pilgrim came back. Snk vs capcom. These marvel games. The ninja turtle arcade games. Seems like lots of games coming back.
Im just hoping this collection is available for download and not just LRG.
All that red tape for barely an hours worth of gameplay across 13 games. Give me a digital Avengers and Xmen and I'm good. Spiderman games are awful... I would just like the newly formed New Radical to give us a remastered The Incredible Hulk Maximum Destruction and/or a sequel.
MAXIMUM CARNAGE! No way! I LOVE that game. Anyone who has never played it before, if this is how you're going to be introduced to the game... the band who composed the games OST, Green Jelly, took VERY liberal inspirations from Black Sabbath songs. Just thinking about the boot-up/main menu song for Maximum Carnage on SNES is getting me pumped.
If you imagine in certain stages you're hearing Mob Rules... you're not imagining it. AND IT'S AWESOME! Carnage NEVER DIES!
(Separation Anxiety being included is also awesome.. I love any Venom/Carnage media.)
Edit: ...It's LRG. aaaagggghhhhhhh
@sixrings Its only that simple if the license holder is willing to make a deal that is also profitable to the Dev.
@Brigurugi For most people these collections are about nostalgia, availability, and replayability, not how long it takes to beat. And yeah, they 'only' take 30-60 minutes because you can spam infinite lives, rewinds, & save states now. A lot of these are legit hard without being able to cheat.
The X-Men Arcade makes this package worthwhile for me. Been waiting for a legit home port of it since it was pulled from the MS store.
Cool that it's coming to Xbox.
This collection includes some fantastic games. Captain America NES, in particular, offers a superb experience, unlike the monotonous and boring gameplay of the arcade version. I never played 16-bit versions as a 16-bit fan but i was wondering. I'll buy!
While some people might moan that they didn't include every single g'damn Spiderman game for example, what they did include is epic.
The X-Men Arcade Game especially is as memetic as MvC2, and the rest of the games... except Silver Surfer... are considered some of the best that got made.
Hell, Maximum Carnage actually got the AVGN to go 'It's published by LJN?!?'
I would personally like to see a remastered version of Gauntlet Dark Legacy only available for the PS2 and original Xbox.
@Rodimusprime13
And Arcade and GameCube
@sixrings true, those games came back. But there's every likelihood they'll go away again. In the case of this collection, I'd bet money on it. They're called Limited Run Games, not In Perpetuity Games 😁
@Markatron84 yes they likely are not here forever but at one time we thought these games would never see the light of day again.
As for forza. There’s no reason Microsoft couldn’t get these licenses for longer than 4-5 years. How hard is it to make 10 year deals? And or at least offer deluxe games with all the dlc on a disc near the end of the licensing.
Limited Run Games? Hopefully they don't cancel this on the Xbox like their previous releases, looking forward to it.
This is really surprising: the X-Men arcade game is one thing, but I wouldn't have ever expected to see the likes of Maximum Carnage and Arcade's Revenge make a return. The latter, speaking of which, is the only one of these that I have, and its soundtrack is amazing on the SNES. It's by the Follin brothers, so that tells you all you need to know.
@sixrings Pay for licensing and they lose profits. All about the mighty dollar.
Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety were a lot of fun. I wonder what the price for this collection will be.
Maximum carnage was legit the best.... might be tempted to get this just for it alone....price depending naturally
