Xbox Issues Refunds For Red Dead Redemption Following Recent Upgrade Issues

Back at the start of December, Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption upgrade for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S officially started rolling out, but owners of the Xbox 360 version immediately reported issues with getting access to it.

This continued for quite a while, and it led to some people simply buying the new version despite owning the original one, fearing that it was the only way they'd be able to play it.

Xbox could easily have swept this under the rug, but today, owners of the Xbox 360 version who bought the new version during the upgrade issues have been getting notifications of an automatic refund.

Here's a look at the message they've been receiving:

So, just to clear this up — if you already owned a digital copy of Red Dead Redemption for Xbox 360 prior to the upgrade issues last month, and then you decided to buy the Xbox Series X|S version of the game as well, you should be receiving a refund from Xbox — because the Xbox Series X|S version was always meant to be a free upgrade.

Some people will probably slip through the net here, in which case it's worth waiting a little longer to see if you get the message later this week, and then contact Xbox Support if you still haven't heard anything.

Xbox fans seem in two minds whether these refunds are a "nice gesture" or something they'd always expected in the first place, but we're pleasantly surprised to see this — not every company would do the same thing!
