Over the past few days, you may have heard about a Starfield mod called Star Wars Genesis — it's been going viral and getting a lot of traction on the likes of YouTube — and unfortunately the official line is that it's not coming to Xbox.

Star Wars Genesis is actually described as a "Star Wars modlist", which means it's not just a single mod for the game, but rather a vast collection of them. The list is managed by its creator, but the individual mods and features come from all sorts of sources.

As a collective, they transform Starfield into a Star Wars RPG, containing all of the following features:

"This is not your typical modlist that combines every mod out there into a jumbled mess and calls it a day. Countless mods and features within this modlist such as Coruscant, the Yuuzhan Vong Main Story, HUD, props, music, etc are made by me to work alongside other Star Wars mods made by other authors. Many of its features, such as new enemy factions, bosses, unique locations, and original quest content, are exclusive to Genesis and cannot be found anywhere else."

As you can see from the videos at the top and bottom of this article, Star Wars Genesis certainly looks like a Star Wars fan's dream, but the big catch is that it only works with the Steam release of Starfield, and not Xbox or the Xbox PC app.

The official Star Wars Genesis website claims it'll "never" work on Xbox due to limitations set by Microsoft:

"Star Wars Genesis is never coming to Xbox/Creations. There is no scenario in the future of this happening. To put into perspective, Genesis isn’t even installable on PC Game Pass or Microsoft versions of Starfield due to the artificial limitations that Microsoft has set on it.

Additionally, here is a long list of other reasons why it will never happen: Xbox has a 100 GB modlist limit and Genesis is almost double that, Creations has a 2 GB limit for individual mods and Genesis has many mods above that limit, Creations does not allow loose file while the functionality of Genesis depends on loose files due to the BA2 limit of Starfield, sound replacement mods don’t work properly on Xbox, Creations doesn’t support SFSE mods, which half of Genesis depends on, Creations does not have an automatic modlist installer, which is the only realistic way Genesis would ever be installed."

Of course, the website doesn't take into account that the next Xbox console could end up having support for Windows (and therefore Steam), so Star Wars Genesis could be playable on there eventually. If you have the Steam version of Starfield (and its DLC) along with a ROG Xbox Ally, it's also technically playable on that "Xbox" device as well.

Otherwise, there are loads and loads of free Star Wars mods that you can tinker with on Starfield for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S right now, available via the in-game Creations suite. Maybe give those a try, and then if you really end up craving a more in-depth Star Wars experience, have a look into Genesis on PC.

Give it a few years, and we might be playing a much-evolved version of this on the next Xbox console!
