Red Dead Redemption For Xbox Series X|S Has A 50% Launch Discount

Long have I waited for this day. I still find this game to be so playable and enjoyable on every level.

So it's 20 quid it's first two weeks??
I guess I'll have to pick it up then if it's that cheap!!

@Chip-Douglas we should have US/UK prices shortly but yes, it looks like itll be considerably cheaper for two weeks.

I have the game on disc, @Kezelpaso, so would I be buying a patch, or have to buy the complete game again?

For some reason I fell off the game when it first released, and although I have bought the sequel on both the Xbox and on PC, I have never played that either. So does the first game still hold up to this day...?

@Fiendish-Beaver You would have to buy it again my friend the upgrade is only for digital owners of the 360 version unfortunately as I only have the physical disc myself aswell!

Wondering the same as you concerning the game, although I don't think the game has an upgrade path and will have to be purchased again. Will my digital dlc get a free update...

Do we know if there is a new achievement list for this version? I feel like the answer will be yes, but I am not always right about these things.

I'm fairly certain that I have the DLC too, @ElectricWizard. It's not clear whether that is also in the upgraded version either, though I would imagine that it is. It is a little annoying to have to buy it all twice though. I don't mind paying a bit for an upgrade path, but having to buy it all twice is another matter...

I would imagine that there will be a new set of achievements, @SodaPop6548. I think this will be treated like Gears of War: Reloaded, where we can pop them all over again.

I just took a look on Push Square, and they are talking about re-earning the Trophies, so I think it fairly certain that they won't auto-unlock...

Made me look, but RDR is a hard pass, at least for me seems like RDR is being priced like an old fine wine... CAD$44.99 for RDR, yet for RDR2 it is now CAD$19.99 or $27.99 for RDR2 Ultimate. Yeah, nope on RDR...

@GoldenPants your choice. Its worth every penny, and the existing owners of the digital version don't need to buy it again. This is a win overall.

@JaffeGaffe I'll probably get it at some point, just not at current prices. Still have another 1.5yrs of GPU so I can't get to the backlog of owned games for a while. Sales need to really be sales.

Yeah... I'm definitely not stoked to buy this AGAIN...

I adore Red Dead Redemption, but Rockstar and Take Two are giving us physical Xbox Series players the shaft with this deal. The emulated version of the Xbox 360 disc game that we download for use on Xbox One/Xbox Series consoles is the EXACT same game they want us to re-purchase for this "FREE" upgrade.

This is a blatantly anti-consumer practice by very definition of the term, and they are banking on us having some sort of FOMO for a project that they certainly didn't put much effort into bringing to modern consoles... it's a straight up PC port of Red Dead Redemption, nothing more.

This is a truly 💩 move... even for Rockstar and Take Two. I am rightfully pissed off.

This just proves that they only see us long time legacy players as walking wallets that should be constantly be drained of our money.

No... I am assuming it was a deal between PS and Rockstar. I can't say there was any collusion there between the two parties for favorable conditions, but it's not out of character of PlayStation to do so. I have a PS5 and a Switch, and I won't be buying it for either of those consoles as well.

That being said, even if it was on Game Pass, I don't want to pay to play it on Game Pass. I bought the game from them already. My money was good enough to take, just like everyone else's, so I should be entitled to the same upgrade everyone else receives for buying the game. This is just Rockstar and Take Two screwing over fans who already owned it, and they are milking their fanbase once again.

This is also why they just delisted the digital Xbox 360 verson of the game at $30, so that they can charge $50 for the new version. But "for a limited time only" we have the great pleasure and privilege of paying only 50% or $25 for a digital game that we already bought... and then we get the "free" upgrade.

This is pure corporate greed... and I say this as a capitalist.

@FraserG Any word on how we go about getting this free upgrade? I already own the digital 360 version, have done for many years, but when bringing up the new X/S version on the Xbox Store it’s showing to pay £24.99?

@FraserG Ah right that’s a relief, I honestly thought us on Xbox were being screwed over as it’s one thing those on PS4 and Switch getting the upgrade but we’re getting the upgrade from a version two console generations ago.

So if I don’t own the 360 version (I dunno if I do or not) then I can pay £24.99 and own the new version?

I will try it on my M2 iPad (via Netflix) and make a decision. I played a fair bit of RDR2 on Stadia before it was axed (in the 60fps mode I think at 1080p). I have bought 2 again but not touched it because I don’t like 30fps and I don’t absolutely love the game as it is.
