It's been a good start for Xbox's new PC handhelds - we gave the ROG Xbox Ally X an "excellent" 9/10 review at Pure Xbox (with many other critics being hot on it), and the X model is said to be generating too much demand right now.
But what does Valve think about it? This is the company that sparked the whole handheld gaming PC revolution of the past few years with the Steam Deck, and now there are countless competitors trying to emulate its success.
Well, speaking to Eurogamer this week, Valve insisted that the ROG Xbox Ally is validation of how popular the Steam Deck continues to prove, also highlighting how it provides even more options for players to enjoy their games.
"If anything, we're kind of excited that other people are looking at the handheld space, the PC handheld space, because we see it as more options for people to play all of their games."
"So we kind of see it as a sign of success that Steam Deck was actually something very meaningful and valuable for customers."
Of course, Valve was being interviewed about the new hardware that's been announced this week including the Steam Machine, with PR spokesperson Aitchison Boyle telling Eurogamer that she's hopeful the "same dynamic" will apply with SteamOS and the "living room form-factor" of that console-like system.
So ultimately, it seems like Valve and Xbox are kind of sharing the same sentiments right now - more choice across more platforms is a great thing for consumers (which is what Xbox has been trying to convey for years) but it's also good for both companies in certain aspects. On the one hand, Xbox gets to sell more Steam versions of its games on new Valve hardware, and Steam gets more usage from people who buy the new ROG Xbox Ally handhelds.
Win-win all around, then? That's pretty much the message coming out of both parties right now...
