Xbox first-party studio Double Fine is well-known for its near-endless creativity — as evidenced by the team's walking-lighthouse-starring Keeper — and it sounds as though Microsoft is allowing them to be as creative as possible; with multiple new IP in the works.
Yep, studio head Tim Schafer has talked about this during Gamescom 2025. The veteran developer was present to talk about Keeper of course, but he couldn't help teasing what else is going on at the studio right now. Fellow Xbox fan Klobrille has summed the chat up quite nicely:
The only slight downside to this, is that work on a potential Psychonauts 3 is less likely to be going on over there, considering spinning up multiple new IP is going to take the majority of this relatively small studio's time - we'd say. That's not to say that a Psychonauts 2 sequel won't happen at some point (after all, we had to wait 16 years for the second game), but we wouldn't bet on it arriving anytime soon.
Anyway, for now, Keeper is launching day one for Xbox Game Pass players on October 17th - and it sounds like we won't have to wait much longer for even more new IP to come out of Double Fine Productions.
