We've unfortunately got news of another Xbox cancellation to bring your way - or at least, that's what it looks like.
Today. it's been confirmed that Xbox is stopping active development on the co-op game Contraband, which was in the works over at Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios.
Following reports, Avalanche Studios issued the following statement earlier today:

As you can see, the team has stopped short of saying Contraband has been "cancelled", although reports have suggested it's pretty much along those lines - and it certainly feels like the project is unlikely to be revived at this point.
For those who haven't been following it, Contraband was first announced back in the summer of 2021 as a "co-op smuggler's paradise" game "set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan". We've heard very little about it ever since (there's never been a proper trailer or screenshots), which has led to fans wondering whether it's been put on the shelf.
The weird thing is that a job listing related to the game was shared as recently as last month, suggesting this decision to stop active development was made very recently.
We'll leave you with a few related stories based on our coverage of Contraband over the years, and here's hoping we don't learn of any more first-party cancellations today. Our best wishes go out to everyone involved in this project.
