These days, it's getting harder and harder to find enough room to download all our Xbox games on Series X and especially Series S - and it feels near-on impossible when you factor in all the Xbox Game Pass titles as well.
However, one Xbox fan has been experimenting with this recently, taking it upon themselves to download 1,000 games - all of which they own digitally - to see exactly how much storage space is required to keep them all installed.
They say they're doing this in case the Xbox servers are ever shut down and the ability to download these titles is lost, as well as having the convenience of swapping titles between various storage devices rather than constantly installing and uninstalling them.
Here's a quick look at the proof - 1,000 games installed on their Xbox console:
The answer to the question? Around 15TB. That's how much storage space the Xbox fan is taking up with these 1,000 games right now, spread across a mix of SDD and HDD devices.
"I recently surpassed 1,000 owned digital games on my Xbox Live account, and my goal has been to have them all installed simultaneously in the event that the Xbox servers ever shut down and access to downloads is lost (which to be fair I don’t see actually happening anytime in the near future). It’s also nice to just have everything downloaded already and simply swap titles between the HDDs and SSDs rather than deleting and redownloading stuff. I just hit 1,000 installed games and figured I’d share my findings on how much space that requires.
The answer is, about 15 terabytes."
Now, the caveat to this is that we don't know exactly what those 1,000 games are, and games can obviously range from a few hundred MB to 100GB+ on Xbox these days - so your mileage may vary if you're trying the same thing.
And again, as mentioned, these games are spread across a mix of the internal drive, Expansion Card(s) and standard external hard drives, and anything stored on the latter has to be transferred to either the internal drive or an Expansion Card if it's optimised for Xbox Series X|S (otherwise it simply won't run). We fear for this person "Updates" list as well - they're probably having to update 20+ games every single week!
Still, this is a really interesting little experiment, and looking at the comments, there are people who have even downloaded more than 1,000 games onto their Xbox console - one person says they have 8,000 installed right now!
So, we're keen to hear how many games you've personally installed at once in the poll below, and let us your thoughts about this experiment in the comments section. Do you think it's a good idea to keep this many games installed?

I have the 1tb series x with the 512gb external storage but I always have about 300 GB or there abouts free I don't like to many games installed at once even if I have the room for them it's too overwhelming for me for some reason 🤔
I think I've 15 to 20 games at most installed at any one time!
Oh wow … there was a time that I’ve had around 1150 games installed at the same time before one external hdd gave up on me.
At the moment I still have 2 separate 8 Tb gamedrives connected and an expansion card.
To answer the questions “why in gods name” .. I’ve lived in a place where internet speeds were very low. (Re)downloading games would take ages. So everything bought was downloaded and stored locally to make sure I could play it when I wanted.
At the moment still 650 games installed and there are even days when there is no update at all. Just the newer games seem to update regularly but older games are just there with a tiny update once in a couple of years .
Got just over 4000 installed - thank goodness MS allowed drives over 16Tb to be used - got 2 x 16TB + 1 x 18Tb
I tend to keep all my games on the external drives & copy Series X games over to the internal or expansion drives as I play them, that way I can delete them immediately off the internal/expansion drive with out having to copy back to the external drive
For info, even though the games are installed the licenses can be revoked & the installed game will not work, this happened to me with FIFA15 for some reason
I know this is an stupid amount to have and even playing 1 different game a day for a decade would only be 3652, so I have way more games than I could realistically play in a lifetime, before even thinking about my Playstation & Switch games.....
1000 games OR just the Call of Duty franchise.
I have 180 games installed across 5TB so I am assuming a lot of those 1,000 games are smaller to fit on 15TB.
Xbox S with a 1 TB SSD = under 50 games but I am ok with that… too many and you just have a digital display cabinet…
I always rotate most of the games I have. Since I also play on Switch 2 and PS5, I usually have about 15 games (most retro ones) installed on my Series S (512GB) and I still have about 100GB free.
I have two Expansion packs (1TB & 2TB) as well as a 5TB external HDD of XB1 and older games and the internal storage of my Series X. I don't know how many games I have installed and don't really care - I have more than enough Storage space to play the games I may want to play and/or return to years later...
173 games installed, from 4 gens(OG xbox, xbox 360, xbox one, series x), across multiple storages(2 hdds for older games, series x storage and 1tb expansion card).
30+ games on the ps(ps4 and 5).
70+ games on steam.
40+ games in switch.
😅worse problems to have.
I have 15 Xbox games.
Some on the Series X hard drive. Some on a 1TB expansion card
I have 34 games and apps on the PS5, all of which are stored on the expansion 2TB SSD, with 500GB of free space remaining. PS5 internal HDD is empty.
I would love to slowly rebuild my game collection. I had to be ruthless, and got rid of so much stuff when I moved house.
I have the 1tb internal drive, plus the official 2tb card, plus 16tb external hard-drives attached, and they are all at over 97% full. It got to the point where I have had to uninstall all 360 games, and those that I own from the original Xbox, plus now I am starting to have to uninstall some of my Xbox One games (but only those that I have played and am unlikely to return too). I own over 1442 digital games, so I like to try and keep as many of them installed as possible, with that number currently being 824 games installed. Of course, this does not count the 400 odd games that I have that are on disc, but not installed.. 😂
...and here's me chuntering along on 350GB lol.
Never more than about 15-20 games, and that includes the little ones like Roblox, Minecraft, Among Us and PvZ that my son likes. I don't like to completely fill the hard drive personally so I only ever have a 3 or 4 'big' games on at once. I tend to play one game at a time anyway to be honest so I cope comfortably with the relatively small hard drive.
I have a 2TB PS5 Pro with a 4TB M2 internal drive and a 4TB external SSD for PS4 games, combined I got 570 games installed.
I haven’t checked my PS5 recently, but I noticed my 1TB Series with 1TB expansion card has 25 games on it and just under 10%/ 165GB free I think.
Is this on series s or xbox one if both i hit yhe wrong button
Currently, I have exactly one game loaded. For me, a lack of endless games to pick from simultaneously helps me to enjoy and appreciate what’s right in front of me.
Cheers to the experiment tho! They do seem rather proud of their accomplishment!
I have a 1TB expansion card and then two 4Gb external drives with one been exclusive for my 360 compatible games.
Pretty cool. I have more so around 30 to 40 Xbox One games and more so 100+ PS4 games (not fully sure due to having many on the shelf but others stored in console tv stand shelving along with PS2, Wii, PS3, 360 besides the other odd shelves for those).
So yeah when I have around 100+ for PS4, but maybe a bit less then that for PS3/360 with collecting, and less than that for each other platform in the 5 to 50 or so I think range for some platforms yeah it varies for sure.
But got a 5TB PS4 drive and that's with mostly smaller 20-50GB games, only a handful of the big 60 to 100GB ones, not many of those at all. Not all my PS4 games are on there but a fair amount.
The 360 back compat I have are either installed (some of) or folder tagged in the game library menu/app to keep track of them. Took me 2 hours and the Xbox One X struggling with so much menu jumping in and out, cancelling downloads, removing disks and so on even if it's less than 100 360 games.
