A few years ago, we highlighted a game called Blacktail that had launched to very little fanfare in December of 2022, but those who had played it seemed to be reviewing it well - it was getting lots of five-star ratings on the Xbox Store.
Three years later, nobody really seems to talk about Blacktail still, but its Xbox Store ratings are pretty noteworthy to say the least. On the GB version of the store, for example, it has a 4.5/5 rating based on over 50 user reviews, while its US store rating sits at 4.5/5 based on over 150 user reviews.
Here's just a sample of what some of those reviews are saying:
SweeneyMcFos on Xbox: "You have not played anything like this. I would shake the hand of everyone involved in this. This entire world story character dev voice acting simply AMAZING. Thank You. 1000/10."
Apocalyptowolf on Xbox: "Honestly, what an absolute gem. The sheer enjoyment playing this game compared to other games in recent memory is second to none. The original art designs are magically mesmerizing, the plot is woven beautifully, and the characters are truly entertaining. It is a crying shame that this game doesn't have a lot of attention because people would be blown away, especially RPG/Open World fantasy gamers."
ACEHA1 on Xbox: "One caveat: if you're thinking of buying this game for the "S" in FPS, don't. The combat is easily the weakest link in an otherwise flawless title. The graphics, voice acting, story, music, and map are outstanding."
Impressive, right? Blacktail also has a "Very Positive" rating on Steam, while its Metacritic rating sits at a very decent average of 80 for PC and 81 for Xbox Series X and Series S (and 79 for PS5). There are definitely some more negative reviews if you look for them (on Steam in particular), but the majority seem to have really enjoyed the game to date.
