Two Surprise Indies Are Launching On Xbox (Via Game Pass) This Week

Microsoft treated us to our latest batch of upcoming Xbox Game Pass titles yesterday, and two of the games in the list had never received release dates for Xbox until this week - both of them highly-regarded indie titles.

The first is called My Friendly Neighborhood, which is a survival horror adventure set amidst an abandoned set for an old TV puppet show. There are some shooter elements to it, there are lots of puzzles to solve, and apparently it's a game that relies on "solid scares" rather than gore. It's got an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating on Steam as well!

The second game is Back to the Dawn, which is a prison escape RPG where you'll have to learn how to survive and thrive before ultimately trying to break out. There are apparently over 100 handmade quests and over 500,000 words of narrative in this one, and it's got a "Very Positive" rating on Steam based on a few thousand reviews.

We'll leave you with details about both of these games down below, and don't forget about the rest of July 2025's upcoming Xbox Game Pass titles - there are loads of them, as detailed in our big Pure Xbox guide:

My Friendly Neighborhood (July 17)

Something scary is happening with everyone's favorite Saturday morning puppet show, The Friendly Neighborhood! Play as Gordon, a repairman sent to get to the bottom of this disturbing dilemma. Fend off puppets and solve puzzles in this survival horror adventure.

Back to the Dawn (July 18)

You were framed and incarcerated. Learn to survive in prison. Explore every inch and exploit any weakness. Manipulate and scheme. Make friends (or foes) with fellow inmates and with their help, break out of prison.
