State Of Decay 3 Has Gone Quiet, But Apparently It's Safe At Xbox

I'd safely assume that's because it's on track (or close to it) and is due to release before the end of 2027. I'd say that if this was still years and years away, it'd have been caught in the chop. I've been looking forward to SoD3 for a while now so hopefully we hear something of it at the 2026 showcase

Though as @abe_hikura rightly pointed out in another thread, Undead Labs probably doesn't cost anywhere near as much to run as the more AAA studios that have felt the crunch so far.

If I remember right Booty was also playing builds of Perfect Dark a year ago.

So let’s hope that we see something about the game soon as SoD2 was decent

SoD 2 is an amazing game and it's a great platform to build on. I just hope Undead Lab didn't bit more than they could chew. I've been looking forward to SoD3 for ages now. Please let everyone's time be worth it.

@somnambulance I think what also helps is the attachment rate for a game like this. SoD2 was (and likely still is) being played long past launch.

Ah man, hopefully that's the case. UL are a smaller team than the bigger studios under the MS belt so fingers crossed it's just the odd few folks. I'd assume that given the team size, rather than nit-pick staff they'd just close the studio, so that's a positive aspect for the studio/game either way either or.

@Kaloudz so far it seems like the axe is being swung mostly at their big AAA studios, whilst the smaller AA studios don't seem as effected. I'm kinda shocked Compulsion Games survived based on all the negativity around South of Midnight (which I enjoyed)

@abe_hikura I am surprised about Compulsion too, I'd have thought they'd been seeing the guillotine too. Then again, we could always see them being hit later in the week?

As for Undead Labs, I read that they (at the end of last year) were now six times larger than they were as a team, then when making the first game in the series - so even if they have been hit - it's likely just to loosen up some recent bloat, maybe?

The first game was indie wasn't it? So they'd have been tiny either way, but even if they're currently twice the size they were on SoD2, they're still (as you said elsewhere) relatively small compared to other studios. I'm guessing based on that, that their layoffs are probably much smaller and the game wont be affected too much.

The recent events have solidified my reasons for not being excited for game that are more than a couple of months away.

Gaming has never had any guarantees for employees or consumers as much as I would wish it were different for both sides

Seems the only folks who get to smile at the end of the day are top execs (& for the most part share holders.). It's a tough world for most other folks though, sigh.

@abe_hikura South of midnight was actually received well from what I've seen anyways I know it did well on gamepass!
I only really ever seen people moan about the combat of the game which I actually enjoyed but us gamers are a fussy bunch I see over on push square call of duty is apparently dying now because Beavis and Butthead are being added haha!
If only Sony made every game ever because apparently death stranding 2 is some divine gift from god 😱

Both companies are about equally ***** splattered in that regard, neither smell of rose petals & unicorn farts. As much as some folks pretend otherwise (side eyes Push Square)

To be fair "did well on gamepass" is effectively meaningless after Hi-Fi Rush

It was a good game alright I enjoyed it and a very original setting and vibe to the game the combat wasn't the deepest but still enjoyable for me probably a solid 8/10 linear story focused game.

I just hope they can deliver the game, at most next year. It can’t be forever in development.

@Ricky-Spanish in a game where everything is fantastic the combat being "just okay" makes it seem worse in comparison.

(Assuming they survive the week) I'm looking forward to what they do next.

@RiverGenie Sony sucks yeah...but they are committed to consoles and exclusives (even tho we have less these days). I have 0 worries about ps6. Games were cancelled internally, I dont remember a game that was shown with gameplay (like Perfect dark) that was then cancelled.
And somehow they manage to bounce off their failures - after concord we had GOTY astrobot.

Also not having doom news every day from multiple sources is refreshing.

@Medic_alert the problem is we dont have any faith and trust in any game now.
Apparently full time employees and teams are treated as freaking startups where you could be let go any moment unless you produce a hit game.
We will definitely hear more cancellations soon. I dont think they are done. Seems like only biggest hits like COD, WOW, ES, Forza horizon, Sea of Thieves, are safe but I remember Mr Phill saying they support smaller teams, passion projects...

@Millionski to be fair there is the bungee one that’s been ‘delayed indefinitely’ - probably canned and marathon.

@PsBoxSwitchOwner you are right Marathon and Concord. The thing is they turned it around with astro and this year 2 big games too...

again this year is pretty strong for xbox output and GP. Its the next gen that looks worse and worse.
and GP is good unless new price hike comes, tho with games for 80 it might be a solid option still. But even Phil said GP is a not a main focus and rather "option for some gamers".

Average gamer already doesnt care about xbox.
And those who are on the fence can go PC or PS way.
Who is ready to commit 700-1000 for next gen with the least consistent platform?
