Anyone who plays modern Call of Duty will know that file sizes can get ridiculous these days, but thankfully, the upcoming release of Black Ops 7 is prompting the Activision team to remove some older content from the main COD launcher.
Later today, the recent iterations of Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 will become separate downloads - meaning their 'packs' will no longer be installable through the modern Call of Duty app. Then, on August 7th, any bits of content from those games that Activision crammed into the base COD download will be removed - reducing the file size of 'Call of Duty' on your Xbox consoles.
Of course, once Black Ops 7 does roll around — presumably later this year — more content will be added to the COD app which will increase its size again, but still - it's nice to get this reduction now and have some of the older titles moved to more traditional downloads. We'd rather the team get rid of the COD app concept entirely, to be honest, but organising it and keeping on top of its file size is better than nothing.
In terms of when we can expect Black Ops 7 to infiltrate the Call of Duty launcher, well, all signs are pointing towards a November 2025 launch. We've heard reports of a mid-November date already, and with Xbox having three other first-party games lined up for October, we're expecting the new Call of Duty to get a bit more time in the oven this year.
