Phil Spencer: Xbox's New Plan Is 'Not A Change To Our Fundamental Exclusive Strategy'

You may have heard about a little event that happened last night regarding the future of Xbox - an event where Phil Spencer & co. confirmed that four Xbox titles are making their way over to other console platforms. Despite this new plan from Team Green, the Xbox boss is keen to stress that this isn't some massive change to the platform's exclusive games strategy.

Speaking on the Official Xbox Podcast, Phil revealed the number of games moving over, but he didn't specifically name the titles for now. The head of Xbox also wanted to reassure fans that the team's overall strategy towards developing exclusive games hasn't changed.

"So let's just go and tackle the exclusivity question, because I know it's on the minds a lot of people. We hear from the community, and that's an important input for us. So we made the decision that we're going to take four games to the other consoles — just four games, not a change to our kind of fundamental exclusive strategy."

"We're making these decisions for some specific reasons. We make every decision, really, with the long-term health of Xbox in mind. And long-term health of Xbox means a growing platform, our games performing, building the best platform for creators, reaching as many players as we can."

"We're always looking to learn as a leadership team and to grow. And we think this is an interesting point in time for us to use what some of the other platforms have right now to help grow our franchises. So we're going to do that."

So, for now we can all rest in knowing that Xbox is going to continue developing games that are exclusive to the platform. That last comment is interesting though - it seems to hint that the team wants to reach more players than the Xbox community with certain games. Could those just be older, smaller titles or games with more of a live service focus? Who knows, but for now Xbox wants to stress that its "fundamental exclusive strategy" remains the same.

What's clear is that Xbox Game Pass will remain an exclusive to the platform - and Microsoft's gaming subscription remains a huge focus for the team. Xbox also confirmed the first Activision Blizzard game coming to the service this March, which you can read all about down below.

What do you read into these comments from Phil? Will this strategy change eventually? Go ahead and chat about it all down below.
